Favourite Sportsmen/women
With a twist!!

Who are your favourite sports men or women that represent a different country to where you are from? Usually the reason for this is more pure (either respect for them for their performances or attitude) than just the blind devotion you may have for your own nation's performers.

For me, I'd say there is a whole bunch of guys -

Shane Warne (Australia - Cricket) - His skills were the reason I got into cricket in '93 and his play hard but fair attitude have always shone through

Barry John (Wales - Rugby Union) - Never saw him live (he was retired in the 70's) but the tapes I've seen of this guy just make me marvel at his ability. Probably the best player I've ever seen on a box!!

Paolo DiCanio (Italy - Football) - Probably makes it really for just one incident. I certainly don't respect his right wing politics, but just had so much respect for the time the Everton goalkeeper broke his own leg and DiCanio picked the ball up for him to get attention instead of scoring in a free goal. Maybe he was just dumb...I don't know!!

Nice topic, here's a few of mine:

Michael Johnson (USA - Athletics) – He was a phenomenal athlete, and is a perfect role model for any aspiring athlete. I also love listening to him talk about athletics when he works for the BBC during major athletics meets. He speaks so much sense.

Jonah Lomu – (New Zealand – Rugby Union) – He bulldozed the English rugby backline, back in the 95 World Cup. It was brilliant from a Welsh point of view seeing the old enemy destroyed like that. He has also had to over come a serious illness to his kidneys which threatened his career at one point. It was great seeing him play again last year, especially when he came to play for my club, Cardiff Blues.

Ronaldinho – (Brazil – Football) – The most skilful player I’ve ever had the privilege of watching live. When he came to Cardiff to play for Barcelona against Parma in a preseason friendly a few years ago, he was absolutely breathtaking. If anyone ever gets the chance to go and see him live, then I urge you to do so! I’m gutted Wales are playing Brazil in London today. If it were in Cardiff I’d be there in a heart beat.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (Norway – Football) Barcelona 1999, 92nd minute of the European Cup final… enough said!

I have heard of David Beckham before but only because he married Posh Spice. He is a soccer player so I guess he is my favorite soccer player.

In the UFC I like Michael Bisping. He is from England.

Andrei Arlovski is also a favorite of mine in the UFC. He represents Belarus well.
