| How happy were you with your team's NFL Draft? As we all should know, the NFL Draft (my favourite sporting event of the year) was held this weekend. As a Packers fan, I was a bit wary going into the draft, since I've never been especially happy with a Packers draft. I felt even worse after finding out Mario Williams was signed by the Texans, and wouldn't be available at #5. Now that it's all said and done, though, I gotta say I'm pretty ecstatic. AJ Hawk at #5 was a no-brainer; while it's not the sexiest pick, and we're sacrificing potential for production, LB was a major weakness and Hawk is a guy who will start as a rookie and no doubt be one of our best players. After Hawk, GM Ted Thompson wheeled and dealed what was originally a six-pick draft for the Pack into TWELVE total draft picks, including seven in the first four rounds. With so many holes to fill on offense and defense, this was by far the best thing he could have done. Darryn Colledge (round 2) will probably start at OG from Day One, WR Greg Jennings (round 2) should come in right away and be at least the 3rd WR, and MLB Abdul Hodge (round 3) is probably my favourite pick in the whole draft -- with Hawk and Nick Barnett, he solidifies the Packers LB corps for the next decade. My two favourite late-rounders were QB Ingle Martin (Furman) and CB/WR Will Blackmon (Boston College) -- neither guy needs to contribute for a couple of years, and both have spectacular raw talent that just needs to be groomed. What about your team? If you don't know too well yourself, I'll help analyze! | |||||||||||||||

| I think the Browns came out alright. No doubt about it, they're going to have a real strong defense in the coming years. Well, hey, their defense could've been great last year but instead Denver reaped the benefits of it, since they signed half of it. Kamerion Wimbley is going to be a great player, though it's quite obvious he's never going to be a play maker. You'll find him just strolling along being your reliable, above average player. Dqwell Jackson I would've held off on. No way is he a 2nd round pick; while he'll add some heart, and solidify the line backing team on the browns, it's still a poor pick. | |||||||||||||||

| The Bills got some good players but I was surprised they picked Donte Whitner rather than Haloti Ngata. Overall though i'm happy with their draft picks. | ||||||||||||||

| I couldnt possibly be less happy with the Giants draft. A DE with the first pick??? Moving up to take Sinorice Moss? At least they filled a couple of needs later on, by drafting a DT, OT, and CB, as well as adding depth at CB and Safety. but still, I'm NOT happy. Also, I watched the draft at a bar full of Bills fans, and they were almost crying, their draft was so bad. They reached for a player that nobody wanted, when people were offering to trade up to take their pick. Then, they traded up to take another player nobody wanted. Poor, poor drafting by the Bills | |||||||||||||||

| I honestly didn't mind the Bills' draft. I suppose that when you look at it from a standpoint of "they could have gotten those guys later," that might be true... but it's not guaranteed, and there's no saying that proper trade-down offers were actually on the table. With regards to the Whitner pick, I've heard they tried to trade down a couple spots, but there just wasn't an offer there. The McCargo pick was odd, but if they really had him as their top DT, it makes sense. If they can keep Clements around and develop all these rookies (Whitner, Simpson, Youboty), the Bills' secondary could be scary. D, I was really surprised by the Kiwi pick... as I take it most Giants fans were. Does it signal that Strahan is just about done? Kiawanuka's only real issue was his motor, and I don't think sitting him for more than a year or two would do much good. On the bright side, he will have Strahan to learn from, and Kiwi certainly has the measurables to be a great all-around defensive end like Strahan. Don't you guys already have a decent up-and-coming DE though? Justin Tuck? | |||||||||||||||

| exactly...Tuck played very well whenever he got on the field last year, and they had an awesome alignment on third and longs, where they would bring in Strahan, Osi, and Tuck to rush the QB (alongside just one DT), and the three of them were just too fast for most O lines to block. Thats why I hated that pick so much, because with Strahan (who showed last year he's still got it), Osi (one of the best young pass rushers in the league), and Tuck, DE was the Giants deepest position. I wanted them to take Chad Jackson there, because I liked him better than Sinorice Moss. But apparently, the Giants had Moss rated ahead of both Jackson and Santonio Holmes. I also wanted them to consider Winston Justice there (because I HATE Luke Petitgout), or Eric Winston with the 2nd round pick. Basically, if I had it my way, the Giants would have taken Chad Jackson with the 32nd overall pick, held onto the 56th pick, and taken Eric Winston (he ended up dropping to the early 3rd, I believe, about 10 picks after where the Giants were originally slotted) | |||||||||||||||

| The Patriots had a great draft. Mahoney at RB and Jackson was a steal. They made some really good moves. | ||||||||||||||

| Texans did the right thing. I said from day one that we didn't need Bush. Davis is not great but he's decent enough. The Texans NEEDED defence badly and a line badly. NOT a QB, RB or WR. We have decent players on all those spots. I'm one of the few Houstoians who thinks this but yeah they made the right choice. | ||||||||||||||

| True but that's b-ball. One Jordan can change a whole team because he plays on both sides of the ball. In b-ball if you have one or two great players and 3-4 decnet players, then you got a championship team. Football needs more of a team effort and right now the Texans offensive team is fine except for the line and their D is in the shitter compeltly. One amazing RB is not going to make a the Texans win 6 Super Bowls in 8 years. We need D more than anything. Our strenghts are already in the QB, RB and WR positions. Strenghtening that side of the ball more would be a nice luxury but our D would still be crap. Improve both sides of the ball and then you have a team with more W's at the end of the season. Look at Barry Sanders. Amazing RB but did the Lions ever go anywhere? Not really. Why? Becasue the rest of the team sucked. You need the best that you can get on both sides of the ball. We've spent the last four years building the offensive side and now it's time to build on D. Is Mario Williams all the Texans need to have an "Iron Curtian" Defense? Nope but it's a start in the right direction. And mark my words Bush on the Saints is going to be just like Sanders on the Lions; a great at the RB position but the team will still suck. | ||||||||||||||
