Did anyone see what happend yesterday? Bonds sits on the bench for a few hours, not playing in the game.. Giants are down 7-5 with a runner on with 2 outs in the 9th and the high praise, flame throwing closer of the Mets Billy Wagner is on the hill..

So here comes Bonds limping out of the dugout to pinch hit.. They could have given him an intentional walk but why bother? He's supposedly washed up right? Warning track power.. is what everyone has been saying.

So Wagner pitches to Bonds and Barry takes a 99MPH fastball to the opposite field way out of there.. ties the game. Crowd goes nuts, and Barry limps around the bases.

Giants lost anyway in extra innings but that's not the point. Barry is back and I couldn't be happier about it.

Why is the Giants losing not the point? He didn't win the game, he only tied it. They lost, largely because he had trouble running down a ball that should've been a single that was turned into a double b/c of his bad leg. That allowed the eventual winning run to move into scoring position. To me that's huge and shows what a liability he is out in the field right now. Sure he is getting his swing back, but if he can't field, he's not much good to the Giants in the long term.

The reason I created this thread was not because of what he can do in the field. Quite honestly, he's been horrible in the field for the last few years and is only getting worse.

The point of the thread is that people jump to conclusions way too often in the media as well as the regular sports fans and we don't let anything play out anymore.. I made the thread because of all the "warning track power" taunts the man has received the last few weeks.

People are pointing to the new drug policy, that Bonds isn't on steroids, so now he can't hit. To me, it's laughable. Of course the man can still hit. I don't know much about the history of his aledged steroid use, I didn't read the book nor will I.. but I do know that he has always been a great hitter steroids or not, one of the best ever and yesterday he proved it once again. You can't hit a more clutch home run then he did yesterday.

I agree he's a huge liability in the field, but just imagine if he finished his career in the AL and hit DH.. He'd still be more valuable at 41-years old then any hitter in the league outside or Pujols and a couple others.

This thread is useless. If that ball he hit in extra innings had carried over the fence, maybe we'd have something to talk about. But it didn't. Nothing here.

How is the thread useless? I understand we probably don't have many baseball fans on here but to me its still valid. They (meaning media/Bonds haters) can say what they want but a day like yesterday makes them all look like idiots once again.

I somewhat agree with both points. Bonds made the people that claim he can't hit anymore look dumb. Bonds made the people who said he's a liability on the field and needs to go to the American league look a little less dumb.

Yes, he's hit a few home runs but they've all been to LF which tells me he's not picking up the ball as quickly as he used to.

The one he hit off Wagner and the one he hit against the Rockies didn't clear the fence by that much.
