Exactly. It makes no difference whether Bonds breaks Ruths record of home runs because people are always going to look at this time frame in sports as tainted.

I'm not really a Ruth hater lol I'm just tired of people getting on Bonds. Yeah, he used steroids. It's in an era where I assume most power hitters were using. I'm not saying it was right for him to do but he's being bunched together with the likes of McGwire and Sosa and others whom would never have been in consideration for the hall unless they used steroids. Bonds was a great player long before he ever started using.. Only guy to have 500 homers and 500 steals, multi time gold glove winner, 3 time MVP, .300 career batting average.. It's sad he'll be looked at in question of his ability.

And one more thing, he's not on steroids now and he's still killing the ball. Sosa had to retire because he sucked so much after he couldn't use.

Oh well.. I guess its his fault.

You're right, none of that was really Ruth's problem or fault, it was the era he played in. Also, Ruth was a great pitcher, something people forget about from time to time.

But he does it in 400 at bats where it takes others over 500 at bats to do such things. He's walked over 200 times a year in some cases. That's why he's better then the rest. If they pitched to him he'd hit 70 homers a year.

Well, if you want my honest opinion the players of recent years are all much better then the players from the 1920's because of everything that is available to them these days to improve every aspect of their game.

Babe Ruth was a fat out of shape man, but he was by far the best of the lot. I always get in trouble when I compare era to era, it's almost impossible to do when you think about it for more then 3 seconds, which is how long it took me to create this thread. I had just got done watching some Yankee announcers bash Bonds for 10 minutes when they got fucking at least Giambi and Sheff out there who are known users.. So what? They get a pass because they aren't as good as Bonds? I don't get it. All this steroid crap is shit. I'm tired of it.

Bonds has passed all the random drug tests and will still kill the fuck out of the ball this season. What are we supposed to do as fans?

In the 1990's, when Barry Bonds was in his late 20's/early 30's (the prime of most people's careers), he was a great all-around baseball player. He could run, he could play the field, and he could hit.

Roids turned him from a very good player to one of the all-time greats. At the same time, though, it took away from his performance on the basepaths and in the field. But, he was such an offensive force, it was okay.

I also think that if he wasnt such a fucking jerk people wouldnt get on his case so much. You treat your teammates and the media like shit for years, eventually it's gonna come back to haunt you.

Also, to his credit, Jason Giambi was probably the most forthcoming of all the suspected steroid users. Bonds, Sheffield, McGwire, Palmeiro, Sosa, Pudge Rodriguez, Tejada, Bret Boone, etc. Everybody just denies over and over again, even after getting caught (like Palmeiro). But Giambi basically admitted his mistake (without saying exactly what he was admitting to, but you had to be an idiot not to know)
