I picked between 43-46 games. I think the pressure will get to him. People forget that in this day and age an athlete has to hear the same shit day after day on radio, in the clubhouse, on tv, in the paper, on the net etc.. nothing like anything the old timers had to deal with.
Home runs is one thing. Like Bonds for instance, if he gets pitched to enough he'll hit a ton, but in this case it's every day.. no screw ups.
I think he's a good enough hitter to do it, but he won't.
I had him on my fantasy team a while back and it didn't even seem like he was such a good hitter. Plus I think pitchers have an advantage these first few weeks of the season... so I voted the streak would end between 39 and 42 games.
The thing that's hard about beating this streak is that you have to actually get pitched to to break it. Every time Rollins gets walked, there's gonna be some serious booing in the stadium.
I did read somewhere that Gagne's streak was statistically more impressive than Dimaggio's.
Yes, Gagne's streak is one of the more impressive things I've ever seen when you factor in all the pressure that went into a lot of those situations. People tried to argue that Gagne was doing it with 3-run leads which was really stupid because if anyone knows the Dodgers, they never have a 3-run lead lol.
I think Rollins is a solid hitter but he's streaky, which is funny in relation to what he's doing here. He'll be remembered forever if it breaks it. This record is thought to be one of the "untouchables"
The day anyone breaks Dimaggios record is the day I stop smoking crack.
And I love crack.

I went with 51-54 games, he will come close but then falling a little short. I would love to see someone break the record though.

Michael Wilbon said something today, like it would be more impressive the way Rollins would break it -- that is, split over the course of two seasons. I tend to agree, because one of the biggest things about a long hitting streak is getting into a rhythm and getting comfortable at the plate night after night; a six-month layoff from baseball kind of cuts into that.
