McGinest would have been a $7mil hit against the cap for the Pats. He is 34 years old. He is free to sign with any team and could still end up on the Pats.
Besides McGinest, kicker Adam Vinatieri, wide receivers David Givens and Troy Brown, tackle Tom Ashworth, receiver and punt returner Tim Dwight, tight end Christian Fauria, linebackers Don Davis and Matt Chatham and running back Heath Evans are free agents.

McGinest has been a great player for the Patriots over the years. I think it would be wise if they tried to resign Vinatieri and Givens. The rest of the guys are expendable

True. I think with mcginest they will try to restructure. I think vinatieri is leaving. I saw on the news they quoted him from an article and he made it seem like he wasnt' coming back.

I think they will try to resign McGinest. I think Givens is going to cost them too much and I would rather see them go after Antwaan Randle-El to replace him.

With the 2006 wide receiver FA crop so weak (and Wayne re-signing), Givens is all but gone from New England. He'll get a huge contract from some team hoping he can be a top receiver, or at least a really solid #2.
