The New York Knicks have acquired Toronto Raptors guard/forward Jalen Rose and a first-round pick in exchange for power forward Antonio Davis, ESPN's Stephen A. Smith reports.
Davis was a likely target to be traded because of his expiring contract.
The draft pick is a first-round pick from the Denver Nuggets, which the Raptors acquired in an earlier trade, the Toronto Star reports.
The Knicks have lost nine of their last 10 games.
Davis, who played for Toronto for four-plus seasons from 1999-2003, served a five-game suspension after going into the stands in Chicago during a confrontation between his wife, Kendra, and a fan. Davis played for the Bulls for 1½ seasons after being acquired from the Raptors.
The 37-year-old Davis, who spent the first six seasons of his career with the Indiana Pacers, was averaging just 5.0 points and 4.8 rebounds in 36 games for the Knicks.
Rose, who turned 33 on Monday, is averaging 12.1 points -- his lowest mark since 1998-99 with the Pacers -- and 2.8 rebounds in 46 contests.

Great move by the Raps, if only because it means 10 million less on next year's cap. They better start working on a long-term extension for Chris Bosh now, and possibly resigning Mike James.
I never understand what the Knicks are trying to do. Jalen Rose has nothing in the tank, but I guess when you are a team like the Knicks you have to try anything to get better, they sure as hell won't be under the cap anytime soon.
I think the only reason the Knicks made this trade was to get a first round draft pick, since Isiah traded away all of their other first round picks for the next several years. The only way the Knicks can get better is by trying to improve in the draft (they did well in getting Robinson and Channing Frye this year).
Well, everybody in NYC is loving Channing Frye right now, and even David Lee has shown some solid potential. Personally, what I want the Knicks to do is just give up for a few years and start over with Frye as the centerpiece for the team. Unfortunately, the Knicks front office will never do that, because they need to justify their $1000 per game courtside seat prices, and they need to sell the luxury boxes, so they want the team to always be competitive.
I don't like Jalen Rose at all. Not in the least bit, and he's pretty much the same player as Jamal Crawford. However, I do like the fact that they got a first rounder for Antonio Davis. They need to rebuild with new, young players, and the draft is their best bet.

oh, and I dont mind Eddy Curry, just because there are so few legitimate centers in the NBA right now, that having one like Curry is an asset.

Yeah, but why would they get Davis, is he not way past his prime at 37? And still holding on to that huge contract the Raptors signed him to way back before he was traded for Rose the first time?

They didn't really trade for Davis, though -- at least not nearly as much as they traded for the cap space next year. Obviously he's not gonna be a contributor for long, but basically they would have done taken anything that would just get Rose off their hands and free up that space. Kind of your typical NBA trade, really.
