Who is the NFL MVP halfway through the season?

Heading into Week 9, who do you think has the best shot at winning MVP so far? Of course there's a lot of football left, and team records will change, but who is most deserving as of right now?

Shit.. that's kinda hard to answer for me right now. I'd say either Steve Smith or Chad Johnson, but when the hell does a WR ever get it? Not too often.

Yeah, so I'd have to go with Palmer since WR is typically not your MVP position.

No one really stands out as MVP, eh? I had a tough time putting together the poll. I think general consensus right now is Palmer, but he hasn't put it together against a real opponent yet this year. He needs to prove himself against Pittsburgh and Baltimore before he gets his hardware.

Steve Smith is probably most deserving of the MVP, but the fact that he's a WR isn't helping him whatsoever. Even in his best seasons, I don't think Rice ever won it, and I just think it'll take more than numbers like that for Smith to end up with it. Marvin Harrison caught 143 balls one year and didn't register a vote.

Rice did win it once. I believe it was the year he caught 22 TDs and ran one in. He also won OPOTY honors a couple times.

Right now I'd go w/ Smith like I said.. even though he's a WR he's been the most impressive player on a winning team that I've seen. I can't give it to Palmer right now because I think the success of the Bengals offense has more to do w/ Johnson being a top flight WR than it does Palmer carrying the team.

If the Chargers make the playoffs I think I might have to go with LT. The man is a superman among men.

I think LaDainian Thomlanson is the MVP right now, but I think, at this point, the Chargers record would prevent him from winning. I predict he will win it in the end.

For my money, it's either Big Ben or Jake Plummer. I'm down with the QBs that just win. Roethlisberger doesn't put up the numbers, except in the win category. Then there's Jake Plummer who, like Roethlisberger, doesn't have overwheling numbers, but hasn't turned the ball over since the Clinton administration, and is managing a Denver team that I think looks as good as it ever has been post-Elway.

I see your hyperbole, but you're talking about a guy who's thrown 20+ picks 5 times in the last 8 seasons.

Man, that WAS a tough list to choose from.

I went with Shaun Alexander simply because I think he is extremely underrated, but more importantly his team would ABSOLUTELY SUCK without him.

That is always how I personally define a MVP. How bad would their team be without them.

LT was a close 2nd for me as well. Running backs always get more credit in my book as I feel without a good RB its damn near impossible to win in the NFL

Probably LDT (not LT...he retired)

The Chargers will probably make the playoffs, and if so, he should get it.

After him, to this point, I would say Palmer...although Steve Smith really deserves it too
