Hockey-The shootout

Do you like it? Will it play a roll in who makes the playoffs or is the expended playoffs enough to not have it really affect the out come? Do you find it entertaining?

I like it. They've been using it in the British Leagues for quite a while now. I think it encourages teams to go all out for the win in normal time rather than risking it in the shoot out.

Also I'd love to watch a shoot out live. Once when I was watching my team the Cardiff Devils, we were about a min away from seeing a shoot out, and low and behold we go and score to win the game!

I like the shootout. Like DD said, it makes the players try harder during normal time. Not to mention it means we won't have to worry about double or triple overtime anymore.

If you don't love OT you're not a true fan! lol. There is something about getting a goal in OT when you are not expecting it. It is so random unlike the shootout when you have a 50/50 chance of seeing it at that exact moment.

It has it's ups and downs but I am still on the fence. What bothers me is when a team ties and lose the shootout and someone says they beat so and so. I point out well they wone a shootout you mean and got more points. But they didn't beat them in a game.

I don't mind 1 overtime period, it's when they go into 2 or 3 OT periods that I start to get bored.

How does the shoot out system work in the NHL? Does it happen immedietly after regular time? Or is it like they do here in the UK, 1 period of OT then if it's still a tie we go into a shoot out?

i agree with u..if u don't like OT..u don't really love hockey..i remembered watching those long ass playoff OT...is soo excited..is not even funny...once ur fav team pop in that OT goal..u can feel the excitement just like the players too, jumping around. Beside if you score a long period OT goal, u can feel the hard defeat the other team has, cause they're just one chance one shot away from winning, that one mistake, just kill them.

the shoot out is ok i guess, it really show ur skills as a player or as a goalie cause the goalie can show case how good they are in net. But i find that the shootout just don't have the excitement like OT does. hey Ida do u know that if the shootout applies to playoff too? cuz if it does, then it will suck big time

As long as they dont do Overtime losses anymore anything is fine by me.

A point for losing was about the stupiest thing ever devised in sports.
