Again, its a picture of something in progress. Whatever the case, who cares? Its a display of affection between father and son. And most important? The Sox won the World Series, its all good. Outstanding parade/rally today downtown. Was nice to hear Konerko's little speech. Something to the effect of "We had to play Boston, and everyone said we didn't have a chance, that the wild card team would beat us. Didn't happen. Then we had to play Anaheim and all we heard about was umpire calls and other garbage. Didn't happen. Then we played Houston, and we have to listen to all this garbage about domes. Again, didn't happen. So I guess to convince people...we just might have to win it again next year!" Aside from the rah-rah of "Let's win it again", the thing that was nice there was Konerko's assertation that WE would have to win it again. Seems fairly obvious he wants to stay here. I really hope he resigns, the Sox are in for a backlash if they let him walk. Anyway, at that point Konerko called Reinsdorf forward and said that people had been asking him the last couple days what he did with the ball he made the putout with to end the Series. He then pulled it out of his pocket and handed it to Reinsdorf, saying there's only one person who deserves to own that ball and its Reinsdorf. This of course brought Reinsdorf to tears, yada yada. The other thing it did, I think, is symbolically tell him that "the ball is in your court now, its in your hands...offer me something good". All in all, great rally and great spur of the moment event pulled off. The players were having a great time and so were the fans. Hopefully Konerko is back in the fold soon and we can enjoy this til spring training, then we can worry about that young and problematic team Cleveland has. But not til spring training.

Rep Power: 8 ![]() | Oh, another fun tidbit from the rally... There was that comment Guillen made a few months back about how he would retire if he won the WS. There were many questions thrown to him about that today (though it was pretty obvious to everyone except the mindless media he was not leaving, since..erm...he said since the WS he wasn't leaving) and he told the media he would think it over on his way to the rally and make the announcement there. The one guy then asked Kenny Williams about it, told him Guillen said he would make an announcement on the podium later. Williams responded "If he says he's leaving, there's going to be a fight on the podium later too.". So at the rally, after Ozzie surprised no one with a brain with the "announcement" he was coming back, Williams was caught by the mic telling Guillen that "If you had said you were leaving I was gonna whoop your ass right there on the spot!". All good-natured of course.

I also think having a manager that is fluent in Spanish is a HUGE advantage to have. You got gold with him as a manager. P.S. Konerko already filed.

Rep Power: 8 ![]() | Yeah, he filed yesterday. You have to love the way Konerko refused to even acknowledge his contract status vs the task at hand. Just win, let everything else take care of itself later. Thing with Guillen is he loves and respects the game and expects the same from the 25 guys on his team. Can't go wrong with that approach.

Rep Power: 9 ![]() | I love how whenever someone wins something, they always think that no one gave them a chance. Everyone thinks that they were the underdog and that they've proven everyone wrong. A lot of people (myself included) were consistantly picking the White Sox throughout the playoffs. My favorite example was after the last Superbowl one of the Patriots (I can't remember who) was saying things like "no one believed in us, and we proved them all wrong." Which is great, except that everyone in the world picked the Patriots to win. |

Only thing is, in this case its a legit gripe. Even Peter Gammons acknowledged the Sox got little to no respect during the season and throughout the post season leading up to the WS. He too said he doesn't care for teams using the "we get no respect" line, but in this case it was warranted. You may have been picking the Sox, but there really weren't "a lot" of others on the lovetrain with you. Best part of this whole thing? We win the war with the Cubs fans. They have nothing to say to us now...nothing. In fact, as Sox fans we really need not say anything to them...just a smile should do the trick.

Rep Power: 9 ![]() | They were getting no respect during the season because they were on the verge of one of the biggest choke jobs in sports history. Once the playoffs started, I think they were given as much, if not more respect than just about any other team. |
