Ideas for Sports pages

Hey y'all,
As most of you know, I'm a Sports Editor here in Colorado. I'm hoping you guys/gals could answer a few questions for me, as I'm trying to get a feel for what people look for and want to see in their sports sections. Keep in mind that our paper only covers high school sports when you answer these questions. Thanks for the help.

1. When you get a paper, what's the first thing that catches your eye?

2. Do you like to see stories with many photos (of good quality) that help to tell the story visually?

3. Do you read more game stories (East beat West 20-13 ....) or feature stories (tell the story of one person/game/team. These are more in-depth stories)?

4. For the above question, why do you prefer this type of story?

5. What one thing would you like to see added to your Sports section?

6. What one thing would you like to see removed?

1) The cover story, I think it should be about something that most of the people who read that paper care about

2)If the pictures are good quality then yes I like to see a few, but too many can also be a problem.

3)I prefer to read feature stories more.

4)Feature stories are more interesting and I can just watch the local news for the scores.

5)I would like to see interviews with athletes.

6)This probably won't be in a paper about high school sports but I don't care what the Vegas odds are for sports games.

Visit and shop for video games at my Amazon-based store, also get discounted HD DVDs while they last.

1. When you get a paper, what's the first thing that catches your eye? Headlines...i've gotten suckered into reading uninteresting articles plenty of times by something eye-catching in the headline

2. Do you like to see stories with many photos (of good quality) that help to tell the story visually? Eh, not really...too many photos will make it look like a children's book

3. Do you read more game stories (East beat West 20-13 ....) or feature stories (tell the story of one person/game/team. These are more in-depth stories)? Game stories mostly, but the occasional topical piece is nice too

4. For the above question, why do you prefer this type of story? Because I use the paper as a source of information, not really a source of entertainment

5. What one thing would you like to see added to your Sports section? Ummm....can't really think of anything

6. What one thing would you like to see removed? I hate the "letters to the editor" section...because most of the stuff they print is total ignorance sent to them by morons who know nothing about sports
