I used to love ARL but its on real early in the UK and I'm never up or at work, its a crazy sport, I don't think there are many rules really except hitting each really hard.

Yeah the Umpire hands thing is funny. When I was in Melbourne (Australia) we went to visit the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) where they play Aussie Rules as well as Cricket. And my friend ran behind the posts to do what the umpire did. He got a telling off from the tour gudie but he said it was worth it. lol

The Grand Final is on right now. Sydney Swans are my team, being from Sydney and everything. We're winning, 39-19.

AFL, however, is nowhere near as physical a game as Rugby League, the NRL to be precise. That game is really brutal, it's the big game in Sydney.

Just an update, Sydney have one the Grand Final for anybody who is interested by 4 points

The gut shot that Simon was talking about in the first post was done by a Sydney palyer, Barry Hall, last week, in the Preliminary Final (Grand Final Qualifier). That punch actually cause quite the controversy as originally Hall (one of Sydney's best players and their current captain) was suspended because of it and was set to miss the Grand Final. Luckily for the Swans, thei appeal at the AFL Tribunal was successful and he was cleared of the charged on a technicality, because there is no doubt he punched the guy.

As for our AFL game itself. It's a pretty fun game once you get the hang of it. Basically all posession are to be kicked or passed off using a handball (where u put the ball on your palm and punch it off.) Throwing the ball is deemed illegal and is penalised with a free kick for the other team.

With scoring, if you kick the ball between the middle large goal posts you score a goal (6 points). If u kick the ball nd it hits one of the large goal posts it is only a point, whereas a point is also scored if you kick the ball between the large and small goal post. To score a goal, it must be kicked through, not handpassed.

That's the real basics of the sport, there is a fair bit more I can explain tommorow if anybody is interested, but if it is available near you, i highly recommend you check it out and get itno it next season. You may just learn to love it.

I've not watched much ARL but it does seem really brutal. NRL is a touggh though I agree, I watched West Tigers beat the Broncos last week and there were some tasty hits.

State of Origin games always seem really physical, I really want to go to an Origin game.
