| Damien Martyn dropped from Aussie Test Team Well, it was inevitable, but i didn't think it'd happy so quick. The Aussie selectors have begun on their wholesale revamp of the national test and one day teams.
Martyn started off the test series well at Lord's but a lack of form and two bad decisions made his series forgettable and now career threatening. Having been dropped from the test squad altogether, this now paves the way for Victorian Brad Hodge and Queensland's all-rounder Shane Watson to splash onto the test scene. However, Martyn has remained in the one day squad.
Also off the test squad (and the one day squads) are Jason Gillespie and Michael Kasprowicz. Both of their tours to England were unflattering. However i am surprised that Kaspa was dropped out of the squad immediately. As mentioned above, Watson comes into contention for the test team, whilst Shaun Tait cements his position, as Australia's third quickie. Coming into contention (and the squad) for the one dayers is left-arm New South Welshman Nathan Bracken.
And finally, another omission has been made from the one day team. Matthew Hayden, who saved his test career (although its still teetering) with a century at the Oval, has not manged to keep selectors happy enough to maintain his one day spot. Bringing to an end, the opening one-day partnership of Hayden and Gilchrist. It's highly likely now, that Michael Clarke will take the second opener's spot as he did successfully in a short stint in the last Australian summer.
So what's everybody's thoiughts on these changes? I'll add more later (thoughts that is) |
