Barry Bonds is back after mising pretty much the whole season, and nobody cares about it, but maybe the Giants fans and of course, ESPN.. I was just watching Sportscenter and apparently Bonds hit a home run in last night's game vs. LA. I was wondering if he'd be the same Barry when he finally came back and he might just be.. I looked up his stats and he's hitting .313 with 2 Homers in 16 at bats (1 homer per 8 at bats) which is basically what he was doing before he got hurt.
There is no reason for me to believe that he won't break Hank Aaron's record.
So..with that said, I ask you, should baseball with all the steroid controversy surrounding the game, celebrate his record breaking home run?
It's a tough situation. Everyone in the world thinks Bonds has done steroids for at least a couple of years, but if they tested him right now, obviously he'd be clean. He's never tested positive, and baseball will never have any real proof he has used steroids unless he does test positive.
If this was Palmeiro, I'd say they don't celebrate it, but Bonds.. I don't know what they should do.
So what do you think? And, "I hate Bonds" or "Bonds is an asshole" isn't a real answer.
I guess they kinda have to. He never got caught, so you can't punish him for something he never got caught doing.
and I'd like to say congratulations to the MLBPA for fighting AGAINST steroid testing for years, so now two players that I'mn sure most players idolized (Ruth and Aaron) are going to be surpassed by a moody, self-centered steroid freak. Good job guys

I will celebrate it and I think it's unfortunate that people are so bitter about it. Like you guys said, he's never tested positive and he's just as big now as he's always been, which makes me think that if he has been on steroids, it hasn't been a huge difference maker. I assume people don't believe he's still on steroids because of the new testing policies, and he's still hitting 450 ft homeruns.
The playing field has never been totally fair in baseball. From spitballers to segregation, every generation has it's flaw, and I think history will recognize Bonds as the true homerun champ if and when he breaks the record, even if this generation doesn't.

Yes they should. There is no proof at all that he has used steroids and with how they are monitoring it now if he did he would get caught. Yeah if he came back, looked smaller and started playing really awful maybe you could say it is evidence he was using them. But even then some players never fully recover from an injury so to me it still wouldn't be proof. But reality is now he has come back from a major injury, has been passing steroid tests and is still looking good with the bat. It is sad that today because of some players the second somebody actually has talent everybody blames them for using steroids. Also reality is steroids won't help you hit homeruns. Wish people would just get over it and accept the fact that Bonds is a great player. Anybody can make claims but without proof they are just bullshit.

whoa whoa whoa guys...let's not make Barry Bonds out to be a saint just yet. After all:
*His personal trainer was involved with a laboratory that got busted for producing anabolic steroids
*Two other players implicated in the same scandal (Sheffield and Giambi) have subtlely admitted to using illegal BALCO products
*Bonds himself said that he took BALCO products from his trainer, although his defense is that he took them unknowingly
*Despite being a great player his entire career, his career numbers in his late-30's absolutely blow away the numbers in his "prime" years
*His head has grown extremely large and disproportionate
Now, like I said earlier, in the two years that they've actually been testing (2 years that came after his monster years, mind you), he has never tested positive. And you can't punish him for something he never got caught for. But you gotta admit that there's some cause for skepticism on the part of the baseball fans regarding the legitimacy of Bonds's performance the last 5 years

Bonds is such an asshole. Last night the Nats fans gave him a standing Boo-vation, and Bonds then hit a 450 Foot upper deck shot and did the "shush" sign while rounding 3rd, mocking them. He's unstoppable. The more you boo the man, the more he gets motivated to prove you wrong. I think that's why people hate him so much, because he can do whatever he wants on the field and all the pitchers are afraid of him, and then he throws it in their face.
I think he definitely was on steroids at some point in his career, but he's a definite hall of famer. When he was 190 lbs he was already a 3-time MVP.
I agree with everyone that baseball will probably celebrate #756.. He's never been caught doing anything wrong. I heard the other day that the Giants are thinking about trading him after the season, Bonds said he wouldn't mind going to the Angels, but the Angels have said they have no interest.
I think if the Angels don't do well in the playoffs this year they'll change their mind. Just think about Guerrero and Bonds back-to-back. Who can pitch to that lineup?
It better be financial reasons that the Angels don't want Bonds, because there's no other excuse. To have Bonds as your DH would be ideal.
I really hope the Giants don't trade him. I would hate to see him break the record in a uniform that wasn't a Giants uniform, although it would be a little easier to take if it was an A's uniform. Too bad the A's wouldn't be able to afford any other players if they got Bonds.
Yeah, but I think that's all the A's really need to be a World Series Contender. They have a lot of pesky hitters up and down that lineup and chavez is an all-star caliber player, the lineup would be so much better with Bonds in the middle, he makes everyone better. They have some good young pitching, the kid closer looks decent.. and attendence would probably grow pretty dramatically with Bonds out there.
