Vince Young

I realize I've been down on this kid for a few years, and took exception to basically anyone who called him "the next big thing" at QB, but I watched the first half of that Bucks/Horns game on Saturday and was very, very impressed.

In just two quarters of football I was seeing things I don't think I've ever seen from Young -- and I'm obviously not talking about his legs. He looked really composed in the pocket -- which is something I thought he struggled with even against mediocre teams -- and he was actually throwing strikes to his receivers. That first touchdown pass was right on the money, and his arm strength looked like it's for real. I realize he threw a couple picks in the 2nd half, and OSU did a better job of containment on him, but to go into Ohio State and walk out with a victory is a huge accomplishment for a junior quarterback.

I still don't know if I'm sold on him as an undisputed #1 overall, but he certainly has all the tools needed.

The kid has good arm strength..I was one of the people who were naming him, "next Mike Vick" and so on as you'll remember, but I was doing it a bit premature..

I knew he had a lot to develop over the summer in his passing game, but I was never worried about his arm strength. The accuracy was an issue as well as he decision making and I wasn't even really sure if he was a great leader. I think he's starting to show some signs in these areas, and if he continues to improve he'll def. be a #1 draft pick.

I want to see him go to Dallas and beat the hell out of OU, (who isn't good this year). If he does that, Texas could very well go undefeated and Young could win the Heisman with Bush and Leinhart splitting their votes.

I'm still seeing a lot of people suggest he'll have to be a WR to play in the NFL, and that the likelihood of him doing that will hinge partially on how Matt Jones does the next couple years. Personally, I think he's way too established a college quarterback to not enter the NFL as a QB, even if that's not in his best interests. Not nearly as many people knew about Jones.

Vince Young will undoubtedly need to fix his throwing mechanics.
