Jerry Rice retires

Yup..it's official. It was his time to go. As a huge 49ers fan you can all imagine how important Rice is to me. I have so many great memories of Jerry over the years..

I can't even put them into words. Best WR all time. 38 NFL records. Championships, MVP, Offensive Player of the Year, whatever..he did it all. A real classy individual all these years as well.

He will be missed.

Ah man. I too am a big 49ers fan.

He has given so much to the game.

I have a lot of great memories when I was a kid of his plays.

He will be missed.

Not even the biggest Jerry Rice fans can say they're happy he kept playing the last few years.

That said, he was undoubtedly the greatest wide receiver in football history, and if such an argument was ever made, he would no doubt get consideration for overall greatest football player of all-time.

I think a lot of people would argue for Jim Brown as the best ever.. Some would say Unitas or Montana, and younger fans would bring up Barry Sanders..

Rice is in the top 3 though.. no question in my mind. I'd probably even give him the top spot.

Jerry Rice is the best football player I've ever seen play the game. It wouldn't be fair for me to compare him to Jim Brown b/c I never saw Brown play and since Brown retired early in his career (30 years old), and the fact he played in fewer games, makes it hard to compare the two since they played in different eras. It is going to be weird not seeing Rice playing, but I think he made the right decision.
