| Latest tennis news Andy Murray will take over as British number one next week after progressing to the quarter finals of the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships in Memphis.
The young Scot defeated South African Rik De Voest and that victory, coupled with defeat for Tim Henman in Rotterdam, should see him usurp the Englishman as the country's number one.
Murray did not have things all his own way against lucky-loser De Voest and ultimately needed two and a half hours to secure a 7-6 (7-4) 3-6 7-5 triumph
British number five Arvind Parmar was beaten 6-3 6-3 by Christopher Rochus in the quarter finals of the ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam.
Tim Henman failed to reach the third round as teenager Novak Djokovic came from a set behind to win 5-7 6-3 6-4 in the ABN AMRO tournament.
The British number one has reached the final here in Rotterdam three times before and looked set for a place in the quarter-finals when he took the opening set.
Henman, who was forced out in Marseille last week with a back problem, almost broke in the first game and could have gained a vital break in the ninth but again the young Serbian kept his nerve.
Finally the Briton, having just saved three break points, got the better of the Djokovic serve to edge one set ahead.
But the 18-year-old broke Henman in the sixth game to level the match before taking the decider to set up a last-eight clash with Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic. |
