Palmeiro, 40, is the seventh and highest-profile player to test positive for steroids under the major league policy adopted earlier this year. In remarks prepared for a conference call Monday, Palmeiro said he had accepted his punishment and could not explain how the steroids got into his body. "I have never intentionally used steroids. Never. Ever. Period," he said. "Ultimately, although I never intentionally put a banned substance into my body, the independent arbitrator ruled that I had to be suspended under the terms of the program." A grievance filed by the players' union against the suspension was denied. Appearing with Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa and other baseball stars before a congressional committee on March 17, Palmeiro made an opening statement in which he said: "Let me start by telling you this: I have never used steroids. Period. I don't know how to say it any more clearly than that. Never." Palmeiro seemed in that appearance to be indignant over accusations made by former slugger Jose Canseco, who cited Palmeiro as a steroid user in his tell-all book. In an interview on the CBS television show "60 Minutes," Canseco -- who also testified before Congress -- said he injected the drug into Palmeiro.

Remember like 3-5 years ago when people like Shawn Green and Luis Gonzalez were cranking 60+ dingers each year? It was just so not right for the game of baseball.

Some guys just have the "steroid bodies", like when you look at their muscles. Their skin starts to look all leathery, and veins start popping out all over the place. People who do stuff naturally dont get bodies like that

I never thought Palmiero was one of those guys.

Bythe way, when all is said and done, can't we count Giambi among the reasons why NOT to do steroids? Rumor is that he told the Grand Jury he started juicing after his MVP season. If that's true, and you look at his numbers, he got progressively worse and worse. Plus he had a tumor and a parasite which put his life in danger.

And now that he's clean (assuming he is), he's hitting better than he has since 2000.

What an idiot. I wouldn't vote for him. I wouldn't vote for Giambi. I wouldn't vote for McGwire. I wouldn't vote for anyone who has been found out.

I would vote for him. Just look at his numbers. Even Bush thinks he didnt do it. (lol not like that means anything) but still. But even if he HAS took some kinda something or another, so did bonds. but he still going to be a hall of famer.
