Underrated Players

This is an off shoot of the Random Sports thread..We can discuss any sports you want in here, but I'm starting with baseball.

Everyone knows the names of Jeter, A-Rod, Vlad, Tejada, Bonds, etc...But I want to give some other guys some due that don't get a lot of press.

1) Rafael Palmeiro-Orioles: I mentioned this guy in random sports, and it's truly amazing what he's done. There are only 2 guys in the history of MLB with 500 Homers and 3,000 hits and when Raffy gets two more hits he will join this exclusive club, yet nobody ever talks of him for being a GREAT player. The man is a machine.

2) Bobby Abreu-Phillies: If you saw this guy at the Derby he was tremendous..24 Homers in one round!! Fucking insanity...But enough about exibitions...he has 6 straight years of 20/20 and is always around a .300+ batting average..He is one of the only guys in baseball with Power and Speed but never gets press.

3)Andruw Jones-Braves: I'm a bit biased here, being a Braves fan, but this guy is a GREAT player. He hits over 30 homers every year, is close to 300 career homers, is only 28 years old, and is the best defensive CF of his generation...Gold Glove every year. This year he's carried the Braves w/ Chipper on the DL and leads the league with 27 Homers..

That's all for now, I'll be back to discuss more baseball players you need to know about and with the NFL season coming up, I really want to discuss football too.

I'd say in baseball, I'd go with

Garrett Anderson: This guy consistently gets the job done for the Angels, and gets little press for it. He's one of the best all-around players in the game.

Aramis Ramirez: After A-Rod and Rolen, he's probably the best 3rd baseman in the league. And still very young (26, I believe)

Jason Isringhausen: He doesnt get the publicity that elite closers like Rivera, Gagne, Hoffman, and Wagner get, but he's held down the Cardinals the last two years.

Football...

Hines Ward: Plays the biggest prima donna position in the league, but just goes out, does his job at an extremely-high level, and helps his team win games

Curtis Martin: Hard to believe that the NFL's 4th or 5th all-time leading rusher (I forget where exactly he is) can be underrated, but you never seem to hear his name come up among the all-time greats. Despite being the NFL's leading rusher last season, he still gets less publicity than guys like Priest, Jamal Lewis, LT, and a few others

Andre Johnson: This guy is an absolute beast. If the Texans start making the playoffs soon, I suspect he won't be underrated any more

Basketball...

Elton Brand Has been stuck his whole career on a miserable Clippers team, but gives you 20 and 10 every night. He's about as reliable a big man is there is in the league outside the Duncan/Garnett level

Cuttino Mobley: Always played second fiddle to Steve "The second coming of Marbury, and no, thats not a good thing" Francis. But he's a quality player. Maybe not a superstar, but still quality

Shareef Abdur-Rahim Classic case of a good player always playing on bad teams
