Schilling to return...as closer???

Word is that Terry Francona is planning on bringing Schilling back as a closer. What do I think of that move? One word: Brilliant

First off, the Red Sox have done just fine without Schilling in the rotation. Clement has pitched like an ace, Wakefield and Arroyo have been solid, and Wells has been pretty good too. Their lone weakness this season has been their bullpen. Stick Schilling in there, and have Timlin setting him up, and basically the game's over if you dont get to them before the 8th inning.

Also it might be better for Schilling's ankle. He might not be strong enough to push off on the ankle 100 times a game, but for 10-20 pitches a night, his ankle can probably handle it.

Thoughts?

Yeah, I mentioned something about this in another thread..

I think it's a good idea. I'm not sure what to do with Foulke at this point, but Schilling would definitely be able to get the job done in that role. One problem though, the Sox will need to get Schill in the rotation at some point to get ready for the playoffs so it's only a short-term fix for the team..

I think Bronson should be the closer of the future..He's got nasty stuff but is way too inconsistant as a starter...I remember him against the Yanks in the playoffs last year he was unhittable when he'd come in the game for an inning or two.

But still, what to do with Foulke? He's clearly lost his confidence which is crucial when your a closer. I'm not sure how it's happend, but now the Sox got a guy in the bullpen making like $7 million a year without a role..

The thing is, somebody in the rotation will get hurt (it always happens), at which point you re-insert Schilling into the starting line-up. Then you work on either bringing Foulke back to his old form, or moving somebody like Arroyo into the closer's role
