2005 All Star Announced. Deserved players and Snubs

Every year the fans across the world get to vote in ballparks and online for their favorite MLB baseball players.

There are actually many problems that come up with the overall process of how guys are selected to the team. Here are a few reasons why its not necessarly in the best interest of the game of baseball itself.

*Guys like Ichiro and Matsui may get millions of votes from Japan for simply being Japanese.

*Guys like Cal Ripken made it every year because Joe Six Pack recognizes the name but doesnt know who player X is across the country when in fact he has 35 homeruns and a .350 batting average at the all star break.

*Some guys make it because they are SUPPOSED to be good, but arent actually having a good year at all.

Then the players and coaches vote for the pitching staff, often excluding deserving guys over others.

This year you may see Roger Clemens start over Dontrelle Willis simply because he is 43 years old and simply shouldnt be as good as he is, while Dontrelle is beating him in almost every category.

Take a look at the MLB all star rosters and tell me who got in on past merits, and who got snubbed from an all star appearance and a chance to grab the attention of the fans that may not be too aware of their game. (Think Garrett Anderson from 2004)

Well..first of all do you think that every club should have one all-star? because I don't..I think the team that has it's field being used should have at least one star so the home fans have something to cheer for but other than that, I don't see the point of taking these closers from teams just for the sake of taking some asshole.

Also..do you think the fans should be allowed to vote? I say, yes..It is after all the game for the fans, but I do get pissed when I see Mike Piazza on this list when he is having a terrible year. I don't like Eckstein of the Cards but of course they are a very popular team..I don't like Scott Rolen of the Cards either..He's been out all year. Morgan Ensberg of the Astros has been the man for that team and is the only offense they've gotten oout of anyone.

Jose Guillen is an MVP canidate for the Nats and he got left out as well..

I also don't see why people were pissed about Jeter not being there..(He might get the vote in for the final spot)

Why are we supposed to be pissed about Jeter? I know he's a World Series hero and he plays for the Yankees, and is a huge star, but he's hitting .302

Michael Young is having a much better year than Jeter and the Rangers are having a decent season. He deserved to be there over Jeter, so I think Francona made the right call.

I admittedly dont know that much about the NL, so I'll just comment on the AL

I think the one poor choice I really see is Shea Hillenbrand. He's having a good year, but not a phenomenal year. Plus, Toronto had their representative in Roy Halladay. Also, Danys Baez should not have been the D-Rays representative, it should have been Carl Crawford.

Also, I would have left Paul Konerko off. He's got decent power numbers, but he's only batting .243. I realize the White Sox are the best team in baseball, but its not because of Konerko. If anybody in the White Sox line-up deserved to go, its Scott Podsednik.

So, in short, I would've removed Baez, Konerko, and Hillenbrand, and replaced them with Crawford, and some combination of Jeter, Matsui, and Podsednik

The fans only pick the starters though, right? Or is that another sport? I was pretty surprised to hear Hillenbrand make it (given Doc Halladay was already going), but then I guess there aren't a ton of big-time 3B in the AL after Mora and A-Rod.

Fans pick the starters. The players pick the backups. The managers from the world series teams pick the last 4 remaining players. Also this year, Terry Francona had to pick 2 of the 4 guys from teams that still had not had a represenitive. (Did I spell that wrong?)

Actually, the managers pick the last 5 spots. When it got to Francona, there were 4 teams that still didnt have a rep: Tampa, KC, Cleveland, and Oakland. So, Francona only made one pick himself
