</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><!-- E IIMA -->Chelsea are poised to make another high-profile swoop after reportedly agreeing an £18m deal for Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips.
Both The Sun and the Daily Mirror revealed that the Premiership champions had agreed a five-year deal with the 23-year-old England international.
City boss Stuart Pearce had hoped to keep the highly-rated Wright-Phillips, who signed a new contract last season.
But the club are heavily in debt and could not refuse the offer.
Wright-Phillips, joined City in the summer of 1998 having been a trainee at Nottingham Forest and has played almost 150 games for the club.
Arsenal were also thought to be keen to sign him but could not compete with the spending power of Roman Abramovich.

Should the deal go ahead, City may be able to use some of the money to pursue Southampton's England striker Peter Crouch.

sorry if this offends Crock but city are not looking to buy 4-5 players with that money, if they take pearce will get maybe 3 to spend, you`re in too much debt
You dont understand our debts, 2/3's of oour debts are to be paid like a mortgage payment ovewr the next 25 years, every penny what is made through players being sold is going to be spent on players

Im purely going off the fact that at the beginning of last season it was reported you were 30M in debt. This year the figure being bandied about is 50M. Truthfully I`d hate to see such a well followed and well Established club hit such bad times. It was harsh when it happened at Leeds but I just could`nt imagine Manchester with just one team.
Footballing debts are always over exaggerated. Crock hit the nail on the head, 25 years to pay it off... shouldn't be a problem, in the mean time buy some players to replace him and strengthen the team
