Little League Fun (the good old days)

I had to post this story about my son's game tonight. Those of you baseball freaks here will enjoy this, I think...a variation of the old hidden ball trick.

Other team has a runner on second, two out. Our coach calls out to our pitcher to start throwing heat (apparently the signal for this play).

Pitcher fakes a throw to second, the second baseman dives at the bag. Dirt kicking up everywhere. The shortstop dives at the dirt about 5 feet behind second, more dirt kicking up and the centerfielder running hard in towards second. So of course the runner starts running to third, looking over his shoulder to center to see the play. Meantime all the kids are yelling "GET THE BALL", even the coach was yelling it. So as the runner slows up about 10 feet from third, our pitcher (who waited til the runner's head was turned to center) sprints at the baserunner and tags him out. It was beautiful. The middle infielders sold it like champs.

It even fooled the other coach lol, and he didn't seem too amused by it judging by the words he was muttering as he left the first base coach's box. Little league rocks.

That's nuts, we never did shit like that. My coach was about the most serious guy you've ever met.

Oh, their coach is too. He played semi-pro, has the kids doing drills like you see in those videos, very disciplined approach with the kids. Its still little league though lol. That's when you get to pull that stuff.

You mean you guys never had the first baseman fake a throw back to the pitcher and keep the ball or come back from a mound meeting with the ball in his glove so he could tag out the runner when he took a lead? lol
