| 5 rule changes to better each sport Give your ideas on how to make the games we love (or want to love more) better Since hockey is in such disarray, I'll start with that first: 1. No more ties: Ties are the stupidest things ever. Every game should have a definitive winner and loser. My idea is this: The first OT is played 4 on 4. If still tied, the second OT is played 3 on 3. If still tied, you go to a 5-on-5 shootout. This will open up the game for the two OTs, and the shootout would only be like a last resort 2. No more fighting: Seriously, it's a joke that hockey players are allowed to fight...also it leads to the presence of "goons", who have little discernible hockey skill, and are just around to injure stars and start fights 3. Goalies are fair game outside of the crease: If the crease is going to be considered such a sacred place, then you should be able to level a goalie if he steps out of the crease 4. Power plays continue even after a goal is scored: That'll make you think twice about committing a penalty 5. Less teams make the playoffs: More than half the league makes the playoffs. That's unacceptable. Either go to baseball's 8-team system, or football's 12-team system, with the top 4 teams getting byes. Then, the first round would be a 3-game series, with the teams getting byes getting a week off to rest up, heal from injuries, scout the other teams, etc. | |||||||||||||||

| Oh, and number 5 should never be spoken of ever again or even mantioned. The playoffs is what makes for amazingly great hockey and it is what makes the sprot so fun to watch. The longer the better! I can't even believe you said that lol. | ||||||||||||||

| I just think it should be special to make the playoffs...when more than half the teams make it, thats not special at all. Plus, the playoffs run two months long. TWO MONTHS!!!! My cousin who works for the Rangers brought up a good point to me this morning: Yesterday was the one year anniversary of the Lightning winning the Cup. There is no reason whatsoever why the hockey season should extend into June | |||||||||||||||

| 1) I actually like the concept of the tie. It rewards teams that come from behind and penalizes teams that can't hold leads. The new deal they have where you get one point for an OT loss is ridiculous though...you lose, no points. Period. Bettman's a tool anyway, he's run the NHL into the ground. Fighting is another point I disagree with. With all that stickwork going on, there needs to be a way to retaliate. 2) Now, as far as too many teams making the playoffs...how about too many teams, period? This actually goes for all sports. Screw the player unions, drop at least 1/3 of all the teams in all the pro sports and no more expansion unless you can show that A) there is a surplus of talent not getting playing time, warranting an extra team and then B) it goes into a market that can and will support a professional franchise. No more of this moving to different cities garbage. If the player unions want to cry about lost jobs, then increase the roster sizes by 10%. The rest of the guys out of jobs aren't good enough to be professional athletes anyway. I'm sick of seeing diluted talent pools killing professional sports. 3)Injuring an opponent. If you intentionally cause an injury to your opponent then your suspension is the length of time the injured player misses, plus an escalating individual suspension once the player returns. If someone intentionally injures an opponent so badly that they can no longer play, then neither does the idiot who caused the injury. 4) Get rid of chopblocking in the NFL entirely. Its cheap and it ends careers. Why this hasn't been addressed already is still a mystery to me. Injuries caused by chopblocks are met with the punishment I described just above. 5) Have league commissioners grow a set. I'm tired of seeing players get suspended for things like, oh I don't know...going in to the stands and hitting fans maybe? How about getting caught using a corked bat? Anyway, I'm tired of the league dishing out a punishment, for which the player clearly has no excuse, only to be met by the player's and the player union's loud crying about the injustice of it and the summary reduction of the punishment. Just once I would love to see a commissioner tell a player "You're right, 8 games isn't fair...make it a month. Now get out of my office!". Yes Sammy Sosa and Ron Artest, I'm looking at both of you. | |||||||||||||||

| Football: 1. Each team is guaranteed at least one possession in OT: Its ridiculous that a hard-fought football game is oftentimes decided by a coin flip. Also, this is kinda related, do away with ties...they only happen like once every 10 years anyway 2. One foot in bounds when making a catch: Logically, the two feet rule doesnt make much sense. If you have possession of the ball, and you have a body part in bounds, that should be sufficient. I dont see why you need to have two feet in. To even things out for the defense, you should also be able to push a guy out of bounds to prevent a reception 3. Unlimited replay challenges until you lose one: Why should you be limited to only two (now three)? If the refs keep blowing calls, you should be able to keep calling them out on it. 4. No more chop-blocking: Its just way too dangerous. It's a joke that it's legal 5. Shorten the time between draft picks: The first round took like 7 hours this year. That's ridiculous. You've spent months preparing for the thing, you should know who you're going to take once draft day arrives. | |||||||||||||||

I agree with everything except #3...I think the game is long enough and you'll just have coaches arguing everything. As far as Hockey goes, they should A) get rid of the blue line and B) make the regular season shorter. I like the playoff system as is, but 82 games? Way too much crap for nothing.. | ||||||||||||||||

| I don't get how 82 games is a lot though? Baseball is at 60 games and it is only the first week in June. I guess it seems like more because the amount of teams they have. Hockey 1) Make the goalie gear smaller and net smaller. 2) Get ride of the blue line. 3) ban the trap lol 4) get rid of those new sticks that break way to easy. | ||||||||||||||
