[quote=Blitz) That's why I brought up Adu, because I was wondering if he is ever going to be good on a world level, but you guys haven't seen him play.[/QUOTE]

Like I was saying above Blitz, if I told you there was a player in the European version of the NFL that was unbelievable, you'd take the comment with a pinch of salt because he's not doing anything at remotely high enough of a level. Same goes with Adu, whatever he does in MLS he'll never be considered a World star in football until he succeeds in Europe. I'm not being harsh about it (I don't think), the U.S actually have a very credible team, though strangely enough a team without any real stars.

Landon did play in Europe, he had two brief spells with Bayern Leverkusen in Germany. Both of which didn't turn out to be successful. In his latest stint with bayern he sulked alot because the coach wouldn't play him from the start of each match, only giving him a limated time from the bench every now and then. So when he stomped his feet the coach said if you don't like it you can leave, and he did.

I don't know shit about your football...so help me out.

I would think that the sport requires you to play like a team, so maybe a collection of stars wouldn't be the best way to go. Maybe, that's why the U.S. team isn't as awful as they should be..

The thing is you're right...the U.S. national team does not have one single star on a world level. I would compare them winning the World Cup someday to the Detroit Pistons winning the NBA title because they didn't have any stars, although they had a collection of really good players so maybe it wouldn't be the same. I've always looked at the U.S. team as not having even any good players, nevermind stars, so maybe them winning the World Cup is very highly unlikely.

^^ It's not impossible Blitz. Greece won the European Championships last year and had never won a competitive game in a major tournament before that. Not because they had any "star" players, but because they were incredibly well organised and never strayed from their single tactic. Maybe, that's not the same as NFL (I don't know) but you can get a long way in football(soccer) with incredible organisation and discipline which the U.S team do have. They outperformed anything they could have hoped for in the last World Cup and, with a good draw, they could go far. Then again lots and lots of teams could.

Yeh but I don't think it would be in the US mentality to use the negative tactics Greece did. I don't even think the US know what tactics are.

You are right Blitz teams who are successful play as a team and don't rely on individual supperstars... just look at Real Madrid.... for 2 years now they've won nothing and their squad is full of superstars.

Team spirit and togetherness is in my opinion a must for a succesful sports team these days.
