I dont consider auto racing a sport. I consider it an incredibly challenging contest, but not a sport

Nah, I don't think it has much to do with your physical condition. I've been in those NASCAR simulations (the actual car mocked up with a computer and it moves based on your driving etc) and while its not the same, if you can sit in the car for a couple hours without having to go to the bathroom and have any kind of driving skills, you should be fine. The mockup was a 10 lap race, which I won handily. I was also the only person that I saw that afternoon come even close to winning it lol. Who says videogames aren't helpful?

I mean, I drove the Dan Ryan for years. You won't find a NASCAR track anywhere near as challenging as that.

Also, the point of this: If a woman can succeed against men in driving, then driving is NOT an athletic event. I am not slamming women, but when it comes to head to head athletic competition, men dominate with limited exception. As mentioned, driving is more reflex-oriented so I don't see why a woman wouldn't do well at it. Pregnant woman couldn't do it, she'd have to pee constantly.

Isn't a sport anything where people compete to determine a winner?

From a strict definiton of the term, I would probably say yes. I think D is using a broader application of the term (though I'm not going to speak for him, just give you my take) which would probably include athletic contests as well.

My dictionary lists it as

"An activity involving physical exertion and skill, governed by rules or customs and often undertaken competitively"

Personally, I dont think auto racing fits this definition...after all, its not the driver's physical exertion that determines how fast the car goes.

Is it tiring? Yes, but so is doing ANYTHING for 5 hours

And, I suppose if you REALLY wanted to get technical, anything could be squeezed into that definition...Hell, if me and Simon had a masturbating competition to see who can finish faster, that technically could be considered a sport...but it's not. I reserve the term "sport" for a select few things. And they do not include: auto racing, poker, darts, billiards, riding a horse (unless you consider the horse the athlete), and a few other common "sports"

You have to be super super super fit to ride a horse in a race.

I played that Horse Racing game in the arcades and I was royally fucked after about 5 minutes. When I went to Kenya they let us ride Horses over there and after about 5 minutes of fast riding I was knackered.
