Just seems to be the way with a lot of football in Europe generally doesn't it? Like when Greece won at Euro 2004 and Porto and Liverpool winning the last two Euro Cups (though granted Liverpools final match was fantastic). All those teams were largely soakers of pressure, sitting back, letting the other team have it, pressing in their own half....playing generally not very exciting footie. Hopefully it's just a trend or coincidence.

I think people veiw of Liverpool is wrong this season. They have not set out (imo) to play defensively in any game. The simple fact of the matter is they have played better teams that have put them on the back foot. A way to measure what I am saying would be to look at the second leg vs Bayer Leuven. 3-1 up away from home anyone in the world would sit on that lead. Liverpool came out guns blazing and scored twive early. Again second leg vs Chelsea, first 15 minutes was all Liverpool attack until the brilliance of Chelsea took over. Granted Liverpool under Houlier were one of the most boring sides on the planet sat in their own half counter attacking. But this season Liverpool have tried to play football at all levels. The fact that Juventus, Chelsea and Milan put us in our own half with displays of Footballing excellence should not make everyone assume we are a defensive side, when really we have just been a very, very lucky side.

And footnote for G.P. Chelsea were a boring Porto-like side during the group stages lets not forget up until around late November Chelsea were mind-numbling boring to watch.

I had a sig, once.

Yeah but Liverpool have been boring all season.

Saw this in the paper today from Benitez

"If Stevie had played better in some games this year I feel we would have finished fourth"

Err what about the rest of the team?

If they take anyone out for Liverpool it should be a team from one of the weaker countries (Wales, Iceland etc) who have no chance of getting through and stick them in the 1st round of the UEFA Cup where they may get a big team
