MLB franchise All-time teams...

Considering how much I despise work, I figured a good way to kill time would be to pick a certain major league franchise, and pick the best player at each position that played for that team. I'll also give some stats and a few reasons why...I'll start with the Yankees, but then I'll do a few more later...

C Yogi Berra - 15-time All-Star, 3-time AL MVP, Most World Series Championships ever (10), Elected to Baseball Hall of Fame in 1972

1B Lou Gehrig - 2130 consecutive games played, 6-time All-Star, 2-time AL MVP, First player ever to have his number retired, Career .340 batting average, 493 HRs, 1995 RBIs, elected to the Hall of Fame in 1939, holds major league record for career grand slams (23), first player to hit 4 home runs in a game, AL-record 184 RBIs in 1931.

2B Tony Lazzeri - 1-time All-Star, 5 World Series championships. Elected to Hall of Fame in 1991. First player to hit two grand slams in one game. Holds AL record for RBIs in a single game (11). Batted .354 in 1929

SS Derek Jeter - 4 World Series Championships, carrer .315 batting average, 2000 World Series MVP, 1-time Gold Glover, 1996 AL Rookie of the year, 6-time All-Star

RF Babe Ruth - Career .342 batting average, 714 Homeruns, 2213 RBIs, 2062 walks, 60 homeruns in 1927, Career 2.28 ERA, 96-46 record, 7 World Series championships, Elected to Hall of Fame in 1936, 2-time All-Star, AL MVP in 1923 (at the time, you were only allowed to be MVP once in your career)

CF Mickey Mantle - 536 career homeruns, 7 World Series championships, record 18 World Series homeruns, 3-time AL MVP, 16-time All-Star, 1 Gold Glove Award. Elected into the Hall of Fame in 1971

Maybe I'll do that at the end. I think team-by-team is pretty interesting, especially when you get to like the Devil Rays and stuff like that, and you really have to reach to find stars. As a matter of fact, I'm doing the Devil Rays next...

Thanks D...it's cool to look back on these guys and what they did for the team. Lots of Hall of Famers or Future Hall of Famers on this All-time team. I think Fred will fall just short of the Hall though...I thought he'd be a lock for the longest time.

On a side note: Did you notice that the all-time D-Rays team would still lose a 100 games? lol..I really wish this team didn't exist anymore. It gives the Sox and Yanks 12 or 13 wins almost every year it seems. But the D-Rays aren't the only team like that.

I dunno, I wouldn't shoot down this D Ray all time team THAT fast. Some of these guys (ie Huff and Baldelli) are young and could get a whole lot better. Most likely not "Babe Ruth" better, but probably multiple time all-star potential. Arrojo as the all time SP is a little embarrasing though.

I am a Giants fan, but all-time Giants teams have been done to death. So Mr. D, would you mind doing one for the Marlins or the Rockies? I think it'll be interesting to recall some of the big names that have come and gone in these young franchises. Thanks man.
