| Anybody see the ring ceremony today? That was something special...they had like everybody who was anybody in Boston sports in the house. Then when Mariano Rivera got introduced the fans gave him a standing ovation..lol Nice show of class and respect by The Yanks for clapping for the Red Sox..they didn't have to do that. And BTW, in the game itself Mussina was pretty awful...He only has one win in his last nine starts against Boston. And Wakefield was pretty solid...The Yanks don't usually hit well against him for some reason. Sox won 8-1 I think was the final. | |||||||||||||||

| I just read that after Johnny Pesky got his ring, he tipped his cap to the Yankees dugout. If so, classy move on his part. I know this is going to sound conceited, but hear me out... Yesterday was obviously a very special day in Red Sox history. But it really wouldnt have been that way without the Yankees. I mean, will it be this emotional when the White Sox finally win one? Sure, the 86-year wait made this special, but there was so much more. The Ruth trade, the Boston massacre, Bucky Dent, Aaron Boone, Clemens and Boggs having to go to the Bronx to finally win the World Series, Joe DiMaggio beating Ted Williams for MVP the year Ted batted .406, 26 World Championships, 39 American League championships... It was the classic story of David and Goliath...without having such a big enemy to conquer, victory is nothing. Or its like the first time you beat your father or older brother at a game of one-on-one basketball. sure, winning feels good, but it feels so much better when its against the foe who's been beating you your whole life. What Johnny Pesky realized, and I hope the rest of the Red Sox organization understands, is that without having such a heated rivalry, the Red Sox are no different from any other team that goes through an extended period of bad luck. The World Series was an afterthought...beating the Yankees was what really mattered. While I would never want to trade in the Yankees success, I have to say I'm a little envious that I will never be able to experience the unbridled joy that Red Sox fans have felt the last 6 months. I've been spoiled As an aside though, I have said before and I'll say again that I would have traded in the 96, 98, 99, and 00 championships for a World Series win in 2001. Just because of 9/11, and how much it would have meant to the city. As it is, those 3 games in Yankee Stadium will never be forgotten. | |||||||||||||||

| And you think The Yankees don't need the Red Sox? How many moments have they had against the Sox over the years that wouldn't be anywhere as big if they did it against say The Tigers. Think about it...I've never seen Yankee Stadium as crazy as it's been the last two years against the Sox. Even when they won all their world series...maybe a little bit for the Mets, but still not the same. The Mets need to realize that the Yanks aren't their rival. But anyway, when The Yanks were beating the shit out of the Padres the interest was no where close to what it is now. It was the biggest rivalry in sports long before last year's win and the only difference now is that the Yankees are the team chasing the Sox. Now it's a real rivalry. | |||||||||||||||

Wow, you really had me until you said that. Clearly you are going on what you see or read in the media to determine this. This citys goal was this: Win the World Series. plain and simple. But any hardcore Red Sox fan wanted to have to go THROUGH New York to win it. Like you said, it was David and Goliath. Eventually David wins in the end. I just want to make it clear that NOT ONE person in this city would have been satisfied with simply beating NY to go to the Series. It was about getting that 700 pound, flea infested, stepped in poop gorilla off our backs. Here is another thing about this city that gets vastly underrated. Yes, we fucking hate the Yankees. But we respect them. (shhh, dont tell ANYONE in Boston I just said that. lol) And Mister D, the Sox and the Yanks need each other, but not as much as the rest of MLB needs them. Word. Think about it. | ||

| I didnt mean to imply that winning the World Series wasnt important...probably poor choice of words on my part. What I meant was the idea that you mentioned about the 700-pound gorilla. After 86 years of frustration, its difficult to not to start to think down on yourselves. But once the Red Sox beat the Yankees, that "we cant win" mentality was over. After all, if they could beat the $200 million team that caused them so much heartbreak over the years, after being three outs away from a sweep, then ANYTHING was possible As for the hate/respect thing, all I'll say is this...The Yankees and Red Sox have played 52 games the last 2 years, and at least 6 of those will go down in baseball history as some of the best ever played (the Pedro/Zimmer game, the Aaron Boone game, the Jeter-into-the-stands game, the Dave Roberts steal game, the extra-inning game the next night, the Curt Schilling bloody sock game). And it takes two GREAT teams to have so much drama and so much great baseball | |||||||||||||||
