That was completely a fluke lol.....but anyway!

The Spanish league is the "next best thing" to those of us in the UK because of the open and attacking football played there. It also helps that a couple of high profile England players play there.

I remember years ago when they first started showing Italian footie on Channel 4 and ITV were showing Championship footie (non premier). I used to think, wow today I'm going to watch Roma-Juve and then 20 minutes into the match I'd be channel hopping to ITV to watch Grimsby-Huddersfield or something equally crap sounding just so I could see a bit of a goalmouth action and incident.

Narc, I guess it's just the way we're reared over here. We're football philistines.....but we're happy that way :gray:
I agree with you Bulldog...if you are into alot of scoring, then Italian soccer ain't for you. That's why Americans hate soccer, it's because there is not enough scorring. If you have a system like indoor soccer in place for normal soccer, you would have Americans watching. I guess British like alot of scoring too, maybe not as much as Americans, but they do like their Goals lol. I personally love 1-0 or 0-0 soccer games. That's soccer to me. It's a game where 1 goal seels your fate. But trust me, I do know where you coming from...

I think that most fans enjoy the art of goal-scoring as that is mainly the aim of the game, right?

Trust me, I love Serie A, always catch it on Eurosport, and the defending and tactics are brilliant. But in a way, I apply the traditional Italian defensive attitude to the Greek team of Euro 2004 - they were ultra-defensive and sneaked games 1-0. They were NOT entertaining. I'm not saying Serie A isn't, but that's the way a lot of people see it - defensive=negative=boring.

I think the way that Spanish and Englush teams are structured means they play a more fluent attacking style, and naturally like to go forward. It's not necessarily the 5-0 games that are most entertaining, many people would agree. Of course, watching a team destroy another is always fun, but that would get repetitive. Tight games are ALWAYS more entertaining - and there are plenty of those in the English and Spanish league, saying that 1 goal sealing your fate is exclusive to Serie A in nonsense.

Look at the Barca/Chelsea match - the two best teams in Spain and England respectively. 5 goals were scored in the first half, yet it was a close game in both score and aggregate (A tie, in fact), made tense by Chelsea craving an away goal and Barca trying to cling on at the end... that was a fantastic game. That was what football is all about - great goals, good defending generally (Chelsea were unlucky with the 2 they conceded), and great skills on show. I think it's the balance of all these things that the Italian league is missing that pleases the general populus.

See, I don't think that is what pleases the general populus...in the early 80s and 90s, italian soccer was the best. They did slip a bit after that, but I would be shocked if you showed me something that said that Italian soccer (Serie A) is not the best in the Worrld today. The best players in the world play in Serie A. From Maradona, to Platini, Rumenigge, Matthaus, Zico, Gullit, Van Basten (they all played in Italy back then) to todays stars like Adriano, Totti, Nedved, Kaka, Sheva, Emerson, Javier Zanetti, Thuram, Nesta etc..the best talent plays in Serie A, which imo is reason alone to consider it number 1.

Sure they do...

Rivaldo is a poor example of a player coming to Italy and underperforming... Ancelotti never wanted him there and subbed him because the president signed him without consulting him. Rui Costa played in his position because Ancelotti preferred him and he didn't get a game

The Spanish league is where its at. Im sorry but look at the best sides in Serie A and tell me what they have to offer against the best of La Liga? Milan can be made to look ordinary on their day and were pushed hard by Barcelona in the CL.

Their defence, as solid as it is, is full of middle-aged talent who rely on the slow pace of the game to get by. Cafu does defy that because he runs up and down that wing like a madman, but there's no denying that Stam and Maldini are nearing the end of their respective careers. Nesta is amazing but we'll see how he cuts it in La Liga.

If you wanna talk star power, who's bigger than Real Madrid? Or Barcelona? Or Valencia for that matter. The hottest properties in European football all want to to be in Spain. Guys like Xabi Alonso, Albert Luque, Raul, Joaquin, Daniel Alves, Julio Baptista, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Samuel Eto'o, Deco, Carlos Puyol, Iker Casillas... need I go on?

Offensively Serie A's claims to fame are who... Massimo Oddo, Cassano, and a fading Francesco Totti. Who else is there thats young, hasn't blown up or has had far more expectation of them than theyve delivered...

La Liga is where its at man. No other league in Europe has the wealth of talent that they have. The P'Ship and Serie A are too polarised.
