Well at least if the Lakers get back on top they will have earned it. They can't go spend $200 million on free agents and BAM!!, reach the NBA Finals.

Cant even compare the two. NBA Salary cap issues fuck you over so bad when it comes to building a dynasty. Now I agree with you the Lakers carry enough presents to interest Superstars in joining their team, but you get so strapped with the cap. They could of course always draft good players, and just tank a few seasons. But that never works out. I.E. that year the Celts won 15 games, and got the 3rd, and the 6th picks in the draft. Fuck I thought for sure we'd have Tim Duncan that year. Unless you are Michael Jordan you need a big man to help you help win titles. Duncan, Shaq, Olajuwan, Robinson. In today's game it seems the big man is the only way to go. What big man do you think can help the Lakers get to the championship? & if not a big man what superstar can turn the lakers around?

The NBA's salary cap gives teams like the Lakers, when run properly, a lot of lenience though.

The key is though...if LeBron James was a free agent tomorrow the Cavs would be able to offer him probably twice as much as the Lakers would...with the $140 Million they gave Kobe there is no way another superstar will join the Lakers unless they take a HUGE pay cut. The only thing they can do, and I think Mister D will agree with this being a Knicks fan, is tank, tank, tank, for like three straight seasons and make wise draft choices. A guy like Shaq,Duncan,LeBron isn't in the draft every year though, so that might not even work. To get on top in the NBA has as much to do with being lucky as it does with anything else.

Andrew Bogut maybe. He would be a great fit if the Lakers could somehow land him.

I don't think that's necessarily true though, is it? I mean yeah, it's difficult to bring in big-time free agents, but teams like Dallas and Sacramento and Detroit were able to bring in a collection of talent and field (court?) solid teams. Look at Miami and Phoenix now, even... they each have one or two homegrown studs, but also players who were brough in through FA or trade.

LA is an attractive place to play for a lot of players, and that's why great players will keep coming here. They've always managed to get great players in the past, so I see no reason why it would stop now.

I think you are looking too much into that Pistons title run. I think that team was an exception and by all rights the Spurs, T-Wolves, or Lakers should have won last year. The Pistons will not win again in my eyes, and sure you can build a decent team like the Mavs and Suns through free agency, but neither team has a star that is going to up his game to the next level and win the championship this year. With the exception of Jordan and a couple others it's all about having a big man. The Heat or the Spurs or the Rockets will win it all I believe.
