In an interview yesterday, Trot Nixon had some nice things to say about some of the Yankees, but not A-Rod. Basically, he said A-Rod isnt the "Yankee-type" and that the true Yankees are guys like Jeter, Bernie, and Posada.
He also responded to comments that A-Rod made, saying that while Nixon is sleeping and taking his kids to school in the mornings, he's running stairs at 6 a.m. Nixon responded by saying "Thats because I'm not a deadbeat dad like him"
He also said he respected Jason Giambi, but doesnt feel bad for him regarding the steroids scandal. He said Giambi is one of the nicer guys in the game and enjoys talking with him when he reaches first base.

Boston's outfielder praised Rodriguez's playing ability but said New York's third baseman wasn't the "Yankee type."
"I don't look at him as that. He might be in a lot of people's eyes," Nixon said. "He's done some great things on the field. He's one of the best baseball players in the game and probably will be when it's all said and done.
"But when people ask me about the Yankees, I tell them about (Derek) Jeter and Bernie Williams and (Jorge) Posada. I don't tell them about Rodriguez. ... He can't stand up to Jeter in my book or Bernie Williams or Posada."
Rodriguez's spokesman, Steve Fortunato, said he could not reach A-Rod for comment.
Nixon also criticized Rodriguez for slapping the ball away from Red Sox pitcher Bronson Arroyo along the first-base line during Game 6 of the AL Championship Series and then complaining when he was called out.

He didn't say that A-Rod had criticized his workout regimen. But Nixon but did say that Rodriguez boasted about his own regimen.
"Like Rodriguez says," Nixon said, "his running stairs at 6 in the morning while I'm sleeping and taking my kids to school. I'm like, well I'm not a deadbeat dad, Alex."
On Nov. 18, Rodriguez's wife gave birth to a daughter.
"He's got a kid now, too, so I guess he'll have his limo driver take her to school," Nixon said.
<!--StartFragment --> Nixon also said he respected Yankees first baseman Jason Giambi, who is the focus of a controversy surrounding steroid use in baseball.
Without admitting that he used steroids, Giambi apologized last week to his teammates, fans and the media for distractions he caused.
"I don't feel sorry for Giambi but I do have a great amount of respect for him, for what he's done in this game, the kind of person he is," Nixon said. "He's a superstar and he doesn't act like it.
"A lot of people have lost respect for people like Giambi. I can't judge him for what he did," Nixon added. "I don't even know him that well but I enjoy talking to him over at first base. He's a very good ballplayer. He plays hard. He plays with passion and what's happened to him right now is (that) he seems to be the bullseye for steroid critics.
Alex Rodriguez (A-Rod) is considered by some to be the best player in baseball. 4 years ago he signed a HUGE contract with the Texas Rangers (10 years, 252 million dollars), but the Rangers finished in last place every year, because they didnt have enough money to pay any other good players.
Before last season, the Rangers and the Red Sox worked out a trade that wouldve brought A-Rod to the Red Sox. The deal was shot down by the Players' Union, because it involved A-Rod taking less money. A few weeks later, the Yankees (Boston's arch-nemesis) swooped in and executed a trade for A-Rod.
In the middle of the season, the Yankees were coasting along in first place as usual, and the Red Sox were struggling. In a game against the Yankees, Bronson Arroyo hit A-Rod with a pitch which then started a fight. After the fight, the Red Sox got their shit together and started playing well and made the playoffs. Also bear in mind that Pedro Martinez, who used to pitch for the Red Sox, had a habit of hitting Yankee hitters every time he wasnt pitching well, so a Red Sox pitcher hitting a Yankee hitter causes all sorts of problems.
In Game 6 of the playoff series against the Yankees, A-Rod hit a little dribbler toward first place. It was fielded by the pitcher (Arroyo again), and A-Rod tried to knock the ball out of his glove, which is against the rules. A-Rod was called out, and the Red Sox went on to win the game, and the next night they won the series.
So, if you really look at it, there's really no good reason why Red Sox fans should hate A-Rod so much. After all, he was willing to take less money to join the Red Sox.
