Emmitt Smith retires

So, Emmitt Smith finally called it quits. Despite the fact that he played most of his career for the Cowboys (whom I hate), I have to give this man his props. In his prime, he was just an incredible player.

One thing that most impressed me was his performance the week after Walter Payton (his idol) died. He had 140 yards and 2 TDs before breaking his hand with 6 minutes left...in the FIRST HALF!!!

He's about as much of a lock for Canton as anyone else who played this year

No doubt. He also signed a 1 day contract with the Cowboys before he retired.

As much as I always hated the Cowboys, I always liked Aikman and Emmitt. Classy players.

I finally played live and it was fantastic.

Yeah...too bad Michael Irvin was on that team too.

Although he did redeem himself a little with his brown suit/brown shirt/brown tie combo at last year's NFL draft, where his entire outfit matched his skin color perfectly

I heard something about this, but how? The NFL's free agent signing period doesn't start until a few weeks after the Super Bowl.

As for Emmitt, he is a classy player, and a good role model for players today. I wish he would have retired before he started playing like shit though, just for his sake.

I always hated the Cowboys but I always respected Emmitt. His press conference was pretty moving I thought.

by the way, did anyone see the interview where Hines Ward broke down when talking about Jerome Bettis? He was talking about how he felt like he let Bettis down in the AFC championship, and he felt so bad because Bettis deserved to win a Super Bowl. It was pretty emotional

That's what I figured.

And yeah, I read that and it reflects wonderfully on how good a teammate Hines Ward is, and has always been. I've always really liked the guy, and if I were an NFL player, he's probably the wideout I'd most like to play with. He's got reliable hands and always plays his ass off -- that's what makes him the best blocking wide receiver in the league. I think it was him a few years ago, after knocking out a player who had pushed one of his teammates, the rest of the wideouts on Pittsburgh rallied together to pay his fine. I think that was him.

Hines Ward is a New England Patriot at heart. Tough and Intelligent. I would take him on my team any day of the week.

Hines Ward doesn't get the credit he deserves because he doesn't shoot his mouth off all the time like most WRs. I'd take Ward on my team over any other WR in the NFL.

As far as Smith goes, I also hated the Cowboys but respected him. He truly was great and he will be missed by the league. He press conference showed what type of man he is.
