Have you ever cried because of sports?

So, one of my really good friends is a huge Buffalo Bills fan. Every Sunday he goes to this bar in Manhattan that is designated as a "Bills Backers Bar". They show the Bills game on every tv screen, they have all you can eat Buffalo wings, all the food is renamed with Bills references, such as the Onion "Where are our Super Bowl" Rings. I went with him a few times this year and it was always lots of fun.

So, with the Bills fighting for their playoff lives, I went to the bar to show some support. The Bills lost and after the game was over, my friend broke down and started crying. There was some girl who goes every week that was sitting next to me, and she started crying about a half hour after the game was over. And as I was looking around I saw a few other people crying. and this wasnt even the Super Bowl...this was just for a chance to make the playoffs!!!

As an adult, I have never been driven to tears by a sporting event. I think when I was a really little kid, I used to get upset when the Rangers and Knicks would lose in the playoffs every year. One time I distinctly remember listening to the Knicks play the Pistons on my walkman while my mom thought I was sleeping, and Joe Dumars kept nailing threes, and I remember getting so upset, especially because you could hear the Detroit PA announcer screaming "JOOOOOOOOOOE DUUUUUUUUUMAAAAAAAAARS" after every basket. This was one of the years when the Pistons won it all, so it must have been 89 or 90, meaning i was 9 or 10 years old. Ive hated Dumars ever since.

As an adult, the closest I ever came was after Game 7 of the 2001 World Series. This was probably the first time in history that the Yankees were not the bad guys. It was less than two months after 9/11, and it would have been really special if the Yankees had won that year. Sometimes I look back and I say that I would give up all 26 World Series championships if the Yankees could have just won that year. Plus, there were the three awesome games in New York earlier in the series, and it just seemed right that the Yankees would win. Then, up by one, bottom of the ninth, with the greatest closer in postseason historey on the mound, I thought it was locked up. but it wasnt meant to be.

I didnt cry, but I was definitely in shock. That was also the day that my unstoppable intramural football team (we had won something like 16 or 17 games in a row) finally got beat. It was a bad day. But it didnt drive me to tears.

Yes, your friend that cried was just looking for attention, or is emotionally unstable.

Why cry over a sporting event? I could MAYBE get choked up a little when something very emotional happens. But flat out cry? hell no.

The worst I have ever felt was the 2003 ALCS when Aaron Boone.........well you know what happened. I remember literally feeling like someone close to me died.

Although I never cried, it was very sad. I also got over it fairly quickly.

P.S. The Bills would have just got bounced in the first round anyhow. They STINK.

true

My friend also was very drunk, so maybe that contributed

Actually, I got a little choked up when that guy pulled up lame in the 2000 Olympics and he kept trying to finish the race, and then his father ran out from the crowd and helped him cross the finish line. That was pretty damn emotional

Yeah, I cried. As a Hawks fan you'd think it's all I do. lol.

The year was 1992, Chicago had made it all the way to the Stanley Cup finals, only to be swept 4 games in a row to Pittsburgh. I was crushed. The next day I went to school dressed in black, yet still wearing my Hawks jacket. I was ribbed beyond belief for days after that, even by my Grade 6 teacher.

Not since I was really young. The closest I came was Brett Favre's performance last year against Oakland on MNF, after his dad's death. I know it's been overplayed to hell by now, but that was just moving.

I have cried from one of my sporting events. I cried when we lost the PYC championships in triple overtime last year.
