Me and some friends at university joined a men's flag football league, and the only team left was the Cardinals. It's sweet though, everything is sponsored by Budweiser and we're the only team who got red jerseys. Most of the guys in the league have been playing for a few years, so we're a little raw, but I can tell we're gonna be good. I'm the quarterback in our option offense (called the 'Bagel' offense, I forget why).
We lost our first game 28-14, but we were still trying to iron out our option attack and get used to grabbing flags (it's tough). Our second game was better, we won 14-0 on the strength of my 3 defensive interceptions.
My junior year of college my flag football team (simply named X) won our school's championship. We then went to regionals and played against other colleges from the Northeast. After three Round Robin games we were seeded #1, and we made it to the final eight before Syracuse did us in, when our QB had a shitty game and threw 4 INTs. We were nasty, though
Senior year we were even better. We were 10-0 and we won our games by a combined score of 300-30, or something like that, no exaggeration. Then, in the semifinals some team ran back a kickoff and then scored with like 30 seconds left. They were down 1 pending the point after, and rather than go for one from one yeard out to send it to overtime, they went for two from ten yards out and got it and we lost by one. We were so good that there was another game that was supposed to be starting on an adjacent field but they delayed the start of the game because everyone wanted to see if X would lose. that was also the same day as Game 7 of the 2001 World Series (the Luis Gonzalez bloop hit game). Not a good day
Pretty much every guy on campus knew about X. I remember one time i was in class and two guys i didnt know were talking about their upcoming flag football game. They asked me what team i played for and when i told them X, they were like "wow, i wish we were even close to as good as you guys. hopefully we dont have to play you"
In fact i went back to visit last May, two years after I graduated, and there were some guys from the wrestling team saying "Man, we couldve beaten X that year they were unstoppable". Two years later and people are still talking about us!!!
Ah, the memories...
