| MLB MVP 2004 award. Who will win? There are a few people that come to mind when I think of this years MVP. Here are a few: National League: Barry Bonds - Has just reached 700 dingers and keeping the Giants in the race. Plus he has a 600 something sick OBP. That is ridiculous. Imagine is they actually had someone decent hitting in front and behind him? Easily the winner of the MVP in the NL. Not that I believe he necessarily deserves it. but I bet they give it to him. Pujols/Rolen - Thats the major problem right there. Its hard to be an MVP when there is another dude in your lineup hitting just as clutch as you do. Pujols and Rolen are the best 3-4 punch in baseball. Hands Down. Albert Pujols is considered one of the best in the game and is still extremely underrated. If he can stay healthy he will make Griffeys old stats look laughable. Adrian Beltre - This dude is cranking out important HR's seemingly every other day. Its not that often but he has finally reached his potential they all talked about for years. American League Gary Sheffield - As a rabid Red Sox fan I will say, Gary Sheffield scares the shit out of me whenever he is at bat. He has come back to the AL with a vengence and has literally saved the Yankees ass more than I can count on two hands. He is so clutch its ridiculous. George is lucky to have him. My pick for AL MVP. Manny/Ortiz - Same problem with Pujols/Rolen. Both are too damn good. Manny has been more clutch this year and has actually been playing real nice D as of late. But my guess is this team has too many good players and no super duper studs. Ichiro - He is coming close to breaking the all time record for hits which was set some 80 years ago at 266 hits. To break that is amazing. Too bad Ichiro is literally the only decent player left on Seattle. Keep in mind that this is all off the top of my head. I may have missed some wicked obvious players. | |||||||||||||||

| In the AL, Vlad Guerrero has had an incredible year. Definitely an MVP candidate Not to sound too biased, but i think Sheffield is the MVP. Basically, if you take Manny or Ortiz out of the Red Sox line-up, it wouldnt have that bad an effect on the team, because you have the other one to pick up the slack. But there was a period of time when Sheffield WAS the Yankees offense. I wouldnt be too upset if he lost to Manny though. Ramirez has had a sick year In the NL, its Bonds. No question about it | |||||||||||||||

| I think I'd go with Bonds and Vlad, no one meaning more to their respective teams than these two guys. There are probably guys who have had better seasons on paper, Adrian Beltre in particular, but these guys have been monumental for their clubs. | |||||||||||||||

| When it comes to an offensive pair, I'd say Manny and Ortiz without a doubt. For a single player's accomplishments, I'd say Gary Sheffield. I would saw Orlando Cabrera, but he's only been with the Sox for half the season. He's really turned the team around. But Sheffield's been helping the Yankees all year. I enjoy watching Sheffield hit. Not to say that I have any liking for the Yankees. When somone like A-Rod is up, I always pray that he'll get a fastball thrown at his head. But yeah, Sheffield gets my vote. | ||||||||||||||

| I hate seeing guys who can't play a lick of defense win MVP, which is why I would rather not see Manny take it. | |||||||||||||||

| Doh !!! I cant believe I left Vladdy Daddy out. He is awesome. Do you guys think Sheffy gets a couple extra hits a year because the pitchers are so distracted from his wiggling his bat all over the place in the box? That is seriously all I see when he is up at bat. | |||||||||||||||

| If I were a pitcher, I'd probably get dizzy watching Sheffield swing the bat around. I wonder if it affects the pitcher's location. | ||||||||||||||

| It's not right to discuss the NL MVP award....Bonds has an OBP over .600 (MLB record), over .800 SLG....he's hitting .370 40+ HRs 100+ RBIs in a lot less at bats due to his 200+ walks (MLB record). The gap of His OPS (slugging + On base) between the 2nd place guy in the league is larger than the gap between the 2nd and 43rd guy. Plus the Giants are currently in the lead of the NL Wild card. AL MVP has to go to Sheff. His numbers compared with Manny, Ortiz, and Vlad are similar, but everytime I turn on Sportscenter Sheff is getting a clutch hit for the Yankees, who have the best record in the AL thanks to him. It's ironic too that Bonds and Sheff used to train together. | |||||||||||||||
