NHL Lockout !!!

What is the future of the NHL? Will the players eventually give into a salary cap? Will the owners keep losing all the money they claim they are losing?

Will anyone care? Will people start watching more NBA or sitcoms? What do the hardcore hockey fans turn to?

The NHL owners are friggin crazy if they think they are going to win this one. It wouldnt be long before all the players eventually sign on with teams in Canada and Europe and leave the NHL bankrupt and decimated in the States and Canada as we know it.

The players have ALL the power on this one. There are way too many options for them.

I personally have been turned off by the NHL for years now after growing up a huuuuuuuuuuuge hockey fan. I would almost like to see the NHL close its doors for so long that a more of a World Cup concept is developed.

There is enough talent around the world now where we could just do the world cup every year.

Thoughts?

Just having an annual World Cup? That would leave like 2506067 Canadian hockey players without a job.

I honestly have no idea what the resolution is gonna be, unless the Canadian government legislates hockey players back to work... it's gonna be a loooong stoppage.

The lockout is the stupidest thing i've ever heard. I guess neither side realizes that hockey has seen a major decline in popularity inthe US and the lockout will simply push fans further away

****ing morons

I think generally Canadians care more about this than Americans. Hockey isn't the biggest thing in the US, as anyone can tell by the lack of coverage the lockout has received on American television. It's going to be a long lockout, and hopefully we still have all 30 teams when it's over. Markets like Nashville and Carolina, which were hurting before this, may not survive. It should be noted that I don't care (and seriously, who does about those crappy teams?) as long as Chicago stays put. I wanna see Barnaby in a hawks uniform, damnit.

I was talking this morning with my cousin who works for the Rangers, and he said he's heard NOTHING about a resolution to the lockout. Its almost as if theyre not even trying.

Think about how hard it was for baseball to come back from the 1994 strike, and baseball is the US "national pasttime". If the lockout kills the entire season, the NHL might not even be a viable league anymore.

Ok, now you can just stop right there. While I could care less about the NBA, I must insist that the NHL stays put. I love hockey. I don't know why all the NHL teams don't move to Canada (money reasons, I am sure) because most Americans have a piss-poor attitude for anything that isn't baseball or football.

I actually think restarting it as a predominantly canadian league isnt a terrible idea. Most of the teams will probably fold, so you keep Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver, and Calgary, a handful of northern US, hockey-town teams (Detroit, Philly, New York, Colorado, Boston, Chicago, Minnesota) and put teams back in Winnipeg and Quebec. Now, you've got an intimate league, with teams only in places where people care, and you can shorten the schedule so the games actually matter.

Maybe my solution doesnt make much sense, but it sounds good in my head
