Eric Gagne's save streak ends at 84!

yeah, it was Matsui. It wasnt even borderline though. It was way out of the strike zone, high and outside

I wont take anything away from Gagne though...that streak was amazing.

Jayson Stark of ESPN.com listed some of the most incredible statistics regarding the streak:

there were 969 blown saves by other pitchers during the streak, including 28 against the Dodgers alone

He had more saves than baserunners allowed

He had nearly 3 times as many strikeouts as hits allowed

his strikeout to-walk ratio was 207 to 34

He had at least one strikeout in 77 of the 84 games

He had a string of 10 straight appearances in which he didnt allow a baserunner, and another streak of eight withought a baserunner

during that 10-game stretch mentioned above, he retired 25 straight batters (he had a few one-out and two-out saves, which is why it wasnt 30 straight)

Only once during the streak did the tying run reach third base

not counting the home run to Blalock in the All-Star Game, he only gave up 3 home runs during the nearly two years that the streak went on (Bonds, Giambi, and i forgot who the third guy was)
