49ers Anemic Offense

I was laughing earlier about the 49ers offense, and decided it needed its own topic.

Having lost Jeff Garcia, Terrell Owens, Tai Streets and Garrison Hearst to free agency, and then backup-turned-starting QB Tim Rattay to a serious injury, the 49ers are left with an offense highlighted only by the unproven, but talented, Kevan Barlow. Living in the Seattle region I get to see at least twice next season the passing connection between Ken Dorsey (zero NFL pass attempts) and his top two wide receivers (14 combined NFL receptions).

Haha.

The niners are going to be a joke, but Barlow is a stud. This is definately going to be one of those proverbial rebuilding years.

they've got a decent defense though

but still, they'll probably be slugging it out with my Giants for worst team in the NFL

But its ok, because then the giants will have a good draft pick next year. oh wait, no they wont, because they traded next years first round pick for Eli Manning :x

Freak, I thought you lived in Canada? I realize that Seattle is super north etc etc. Maybe I am just smoking too much crack lately. lol.

Its about time the 49ers stunk. Maybe they will be the new version of the late 80's early 90's Patriots who were about as bad as you could get.

I think Tia Streets is a very underrated WR. Where did he end up? Detriot? I can't remember.

Barlow will look terrible no matter how good he is. Teams will be gunning for him all season long. look for a 3-13 season from them.

Also, D I think you are underrating Tom Coughlins skill and what he will be able to do with the Giants. Getting rid of Kerry Collins wasnt the best idea but probably necessary. Look for the Giants to go 8-8.

DD's Favorite of All Times

I finally played live and it was fantastic.

Yeah, Tai Streets ended up in Detroit...he'll make a nice third receiver alongside Charles Rogers and Roy Williams

Freak lives in British Columbia, which is the Candian province that borders Washington State...so he's probably not that far from Seattle

The Giants are playing in a sick division. The Eagles, who made it to the NFC championship the past three years, picked up T.O. and The Freak (not our Freak..."The" Freak, Jevon Kearse)

Plus, Washington picked up Clinton Portis and a serviceable QB in Brunell who is also mobile, which will help considering Ramsey was sacked like 80 million times last year. Not to mention they got the best defensive player in the draft

and you always have to respect Bill Parcells, although i think theyre making a mistake by not picking up Kerry Collins...why wouldnt you want a veteran QB, who has much experience playing against the Eagles and Redskins? Does he really have that much faith in Quincy Carter and Drew Henson???

The Giants may not be in such dire straits as i predict...but i would have rather them hold on to that #4 pick and keep Collins, because they have enough talent elswhere (Toomer, Barber, Shockey, Hilliard, Strahan, Will Allen and Will Peterson) that they can make a playoff run this season

D, Now that you layed all that out about the NFC East, perhaps you are correct. For whatever reason I wasnt thinking about how awesome that division has gotten.

I think Gibbs will take a year or so to get his shit together.

Philly is OVERRATED !! TO is a cancer and will help destroy that team like he did SF.

I have seen a lot of tape/tryouts of Henson and even though its not game conditions by any means, he sure looks impressive. I wish him all the luck. (He isn't a filthy stupid Yankee anymore )

I have also heard a lot of dessention is taking place in the NY media regarding vetrans not being happy about Collins being let go by the Giants. We shall see how that all pans out.

For what its worth D, the Giants were my 2nd favorite team after the Broncos in the 80's.

Not a Patriots fan???

Actually, i heard that for quite a long time, the Patriots were like the bastard stepchild in the New England landscape...I guess because before they came around, New Englanders had to root for the Giants, since they were the closest team geographically, and the Giants fandom carried over into subsequent generations

Simon, I think you are vastly overrating Tom Coughlin, who I feel is just an awful football coach. He's far too old-fashioned, and works his players to the point of exhaustion by the time Sunday rolls around. There are already Giants players who have spoken out against the guy, and it's only May. I don't see him being able to hang with Parcells, Reid and Gibbs (actually I have doubts about Gibbs too).

Tai Streets will actually be competing with Az Hakim for the 3rd receiver slot, which is kind of strange considering he played well last year as a #2 behind an all-world wideout.

D, I think acquiring Brunell was perhaps the worst move all offseason. It's not that he's a bad quarterback, but they gave up a 2nd-round pick when he would have been released, and it's just a cold hard slap in the face of Patrick Ramsey, who is primed and ready to break out, or as ready as he ever will be anyway. I'd also say it's a stretch to call him anything resembling mobile these days, he won't be running much at all this year.

Yeah, I live in southwest BC, very close to Seattle. Unfortunately this means I see every Seahawks game every week, including two a year against Arizona. I need Sunday Ticket.
