Offensive team names

Syracuse University announced that they will no longer be calling their teams the "Orangemen" and "Orangewomen", but rather just "Orange"

I didnt read what theyre reasoning was, but believe its because Orangeman is a derogatory term for Native Americans

a few years ago, St. Johns University changed its team name from St Johns Redmen to St Johns Red Storm, because of the negative connotation regarding Native Americans

Do you think professional franchises like the Washington Redskins should follow suit? How about the Atlanta Braves? Or the Cleveland Indians?

i don't think they should be changin their names. to me if you name a team after something it would be like an honorary thing like showin respect.

Ya up here in North Dakota. UND is called the fighting Sioux. The Indians want it changed. It's stupid because its an honor to have a national champion hockey team named after you. Would they rather be called the lazy sioux,drunken sioux,wussy sioux? No, they are the fighting Sioux they are proud warriors but some people just like to complain it gives them something to do.

oh ok...i have several friends who went to 'Cuse, and one of my good friends from college lives there, and i remember them telling me that for years the Indian nations that live up there have been trying to get the name changed. i just assumed that was why they changed the name

I've never heard the word Orangemen used to describe Natives, maybe it's a New York thing, anyways I always thought the term was related to Protestantism.
