NFL Draft

This Saturday is the annual NFL draft. Here is a chance for us to talk about our teams, other teams needs and other good stuff.

Here are some of the top rumors that are out there at this time.

*The New York Giants - Chargers deal is all but done. From there the Giants take Manning with the 1st pick in the draft. NY is looked to be giving up the 4th pick, plus a 2nd from 2004 and a 2nd in 2005 and maybe Ike Hillard. Not to bad overall if you really have your heart set on a guy. I personally think Manning in New York is just what the doctor ordered. The NFL is better overall when teams like New York, Chicago and Dallas are good. This would be a smart move in my eyes. Even if he isn't necessarily the best player available, I think its a match made in heaven.

-Also, Eli must be thanking the football gods (and his dad Archie) for making his arrival in San Diego be that of an opposing QB.

*Minnesota is having a hard time getting out of the 19th pick. They are looking for a couple 3rd rounders.

*The big rumor I have heard at this time is that the Patriots will be trading the 36th and 60'something pick in the draft for Miami's number 20 pick. Then packaging the 20th and 21st to Washington for the 5th overall pick and then taking either Sean Taylor from Miami or big tackle Robert Gallery and moving Matt Light to guard.

I have also heard faint and unlikely rumors of them taking some CB who's name escapes me right now and trading Ty Law to Philly for a 2nd and 3rd round pick. But my gut tells me that Bill won't let Ty go so easy.

*Larry Fitzgerald to Oakland now that Mike Williams isn't available.

Oh, there is so many options.

Who is your favorite NFL team? What do they need? Will it be a sucess or a flop? This is an extremely deep draft. Many teams should benefit from this upcoming class for sure. Even if they can't get Maurice "The Gnat" Clarett.

With Williams out of the draft. I don't see Gallery lasting until the 5th pick. There are a lot of teams interested in him and he could potentially be the first pick (although it's unlikely).

I was watching ESPN today and they were saying that the Chargers are determined to draft Manning even though he said he doesn't want to go there. We'll see how that works out.

With these recent court rulings, Mike Williams could potentially be really screwed. He can't be in the draft, but he's already hired an agent which should make him ineligible to go back to college. I hope he has to sit out the year. Fuck the Trojans.

I have heard rumors of both going to the CFL for a year and then they could be unrestricted free agents for the next NFL season.

Williams and Clarett would like try to enter the NFL Supplemental Draft, which is held in the summer, if they can't make it into the normal Draft. It's kind of a complicated process, but it means San Diego would have a great chance of landing Williams AND whoever they draft on Saturday.

Simon, if I were the Pats, I'd take Philly's 2 and 3 and be off like a bandit. At this point, Law's agent is asking so much they should just take whatever it is they can get, with a 2 and 3 being an obscene amount. My Packers are in a similar situation, as Mike McKenzie, my favourite player, is being a whore.

If the Pats did move up to #5, Gallery would be long gone, but Taylor is a heckuva player on his own. Still, the Pats have Harrison and Belichick is really high on Wilson as a safety for some reason, so I dunno. They might target a guy like Roy Williams.

The Packers need DB help badly, so I'd like to see them grab one of Joey Thomas, from Montana State. He sounds like a prototypical Packers corner - tall and physical.

The thought here is that they may end up moving Wilson back to his original position of CB and draft Taylor. Then they can let that money hungry whore Law hit the road.

By Ty, Don't let the door hit you on the ass. The team is bigger than any one player and Bill will prove that once again. But he will make sure he gets exactly what he wants for Law before he lets him go.

Keep in mind that Belichick just acquired one of 2003's biggest whiny crybabies, in Corey Dillon. Maybe ol' BB is gettin' soft...

I still find it highly unlikely the Pats could get a 2 and a 3 for a guy with insane contract demands, who few teams are inquiring about. If Green Bay had more cap room they'd probably be discussing a swap between Law and McKenzie.

you would think Ty Law would have learned something from Lawyer Milloy...

Peter King from Sports Illustrated wrote a great article on CNNSI.com a few weeks ago talking about how ridiculous Ty Law's demands are. He's already one of the top-5 paid defensive backs in the NFL, and he wants to re work his deal? At the time, it was the largest contract ever given to a DB. Deal with it Ty

As far as Mike Williams is concerned, i think the NCAA will reinstate him. It would be totally unfair if they didnt. The NFL said he was eligible, then they said he wasnt. It's not his fault. I think the NCAA will make an exception in his case

And, for the draft, this is how i see it playing out...

San Diego finally buckles under the pressure and trades the #1 pick to my Giants for our pick and another one somewhere down the line. i think two second-rounders and Ike Hilliard is a bit much to add however

Oakland takes Gallery at #2

Arizona takes Fitzgerald at #3

i think San Diego will also trade down with Cleveland, who will take Ben Roethlisberger at #4

Washington takes Sean Taylor at #5

Detroit takes Kellen Winslow at #6

San Diego takes Philip Rivers (the guy they wanted all along) at #7

Atlanta takes Roy Williams at #8

thats about as far out as i feel like going. i could be totally wrong, however...

You're on the right track as far as guys in the top 8 are concerned, though the Chargers could probably keep trading down to at least 10 to grab Rivers, and probably even further if Pittsburgh isn't interested in him. I sense the Raiders will take one of the high-profile offensive guys, since Al Davis desparately needs a young new face to sell to fans. They like Roy Williams a lot, but Fitzgerald is, in my opinion, a better receiver. I know Denny Green is just enamored with Fitz.

I can't wait for the draft, damn. Sucks that here in Canada we only get 3 and half hours of coverage, which is like the first 25 picks or so.

Oh believe me, I will be. Actually I like NFL.com's coverage a little better, not that it matters to any of you dicks with ESPN on your TV.

By the way, I'm disregarding all Pats-related rumours until the draft is completed. There are just too many New England fans, and they all seem to spreading a different one.
