It's not always the players' fault. Some clubs put pressure on their players to pull out of friendlies. At the end of the day the clubs want to protect their investments.
At the end of the day, clubs are paying the wages, so they have every right to have the final decision in my opinion, especially when it comes to friendlies. As said if they've got a little niggle, their club won't want to risk that becoming something more serious by playing in a friendly.

Thankfully, on this occasion, there was only 1 player who could lay any claim to being a starter for this match that actually pulled out (Gary Nev) and it worked out well for us that Richards showed he's a capable deputy. If players withdraw from friendlies it can produced positives that you may not have seen otherwise!!
