If the draft were re-done today?

Let's say the '06 NFL draft was redone today after seeing a half season of playing for these rookies. Some questions I ponder:

-Should Houston still have taken Mario Williams first overall?
-Is Reggie Bush a good fit in New Orleans, or should he have been taken by Houston? Or somene else?
-Are you giving more props to Laurence Maroney? After seeing him play now, should he have been a top 10 pick?

I wonder if the draft would have been decided completely different if redone today. So many questions...

Your thoughts?

Well, it's still early. They usually say it takes 3-4 years to really determine how well a team drafted. It would probabaly be better to consider the 2003 or 2004 draft instead. 8 games isn't really enough to determine just how good the players in the draft were.

To continue on my point earlier, sure we can make some sort of judgement on Bush, Williams, Colston, Leinart, Young, etc. But what about Michael Huff or Donte Whitner, safeties who went in the Top 10? Or D'Brickashaw Ferguson? Stats for non-skill position players are hard to come by, so it's hard to know at this point if the Jets were smart for taking D'Brick, or stupid for passing on Leinart/Moroney.

Some other highly touted prospects, like Jay Cutler, have barely stepped out onto the field. We don't know yet whether that was a good pick or not. It's simply WAY too early to look at this year's draft class

I wasn't saying let's redo the whole draft, I was just looking for a first half thought. Based on the performances of the players SO FAR, would the draft order be changed? For example, would the Texans look at how Bush and Williams have played THUS FAR and changed their pick? This was just meant as a "what-if", I wasn't looking to see if it was a bad idea to change picks.

*I think the Texans made a good choice with Mario Williams. He is going to be a player in the NFL.

*Of course the Saints made a good choice with Reggie Bush. The city needed him.

* I like Vince Young with the Titans. He suits them well.

* Cutler should start next year, and should fit in pretty well in Denver.

* Matt Leinart is a stud. I am not sure what is with the cards, but they need to get it together, cause you have a qb who can help take them places.

Fair enough. Mario Williams started out slow, but has really come on the last few weeks. I'm sure the Texans are happy with the results they've gotten outof him.

Also, even though Reggie Bush hasn't done much in the running game yet, he has been effective in the passing game, as well as a decoy that has opened things up for Deuce and the other receivers. I think he has definitely contributed to the success of the Saints this year. Maybe not as much as people thought he would, but he's definitely helped.

Some of the defensive rookies, like DeMeco Ryans of the Texans also are hhaving pretty good years.

Well obviously any team that needs a WR would be looking at Marques Colston in the first round, as well as Greg Jennings.

I don't know if Maroney would go higher than to the Pats -- I mean, he was highly-touted coming out of college, and he's pretty much met expectations. The same goes for DeAngelo Williams and Joseph Addai, really. If any of them had been setting the league on fire so far, maybe it'd be a different story -- but after eight games, even though he's done less than all those rookies (even less than Jones-Drew, probably), Reggie Bush would still probably go first, based on potential.
