You are going to say Piazza is a better hitter because his overall BA is .005 higher? LOL!! When talking about great catchers, they are known for their glove and defense abilities, their abilities to throw out baserunners, leading a team (the catcher is the most important player on the field, except for maybe the pitcher - he sets the tone of the game). Pudge wins on those levels. If you want to talk about offensive stats, look at OF or 1B or something. Not catchers. Although, Pudge's offensive stats are also excellent. Who is better: Bird or Johnson?? | |
| And now, here it is...your moment of Carlin (10/10/2008) I don't think we should be governing ourselves. What we need is a king, and every now and then if the king's not doing a good job, we kill him. | ||

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | I would also rather have a catcher who is a 12 time gold glover and 13 time all star but when I see a catcher like Piazza I have to lean towards him. He is not only a Homerun hitter he has 2042 hits which is much behind Pudge with 2354 but rememer Pudge has 1,000 more at bats. He has 327 doubles and 7 triples which Pudge does kill him in those two catories pretty bad but then again Piazza owns him in Homeruns and RBIs. Another important stat which makes Mike Piazza better would be how when Piazza plays more than 120 games in a single season he has over 20 home runs and over 85 RBIs, Pudge only has down that 4 times to Piazzas 7. Piazza Triples might not stand out but he is a clean up hitter. When was the last time we saw a clean up hitter have more than 5 triples in a season...never. His doubles might be as good but instead of him hitting doubles like Pudge does he hits them over the fence which is better in my opion. I will hand the hits catorgie to Pudge becuase he is a solid hitter. I will say Piazza sucks at defense but he seems to get everywhere with this defense and be potrayed as a leader becuase of this offense and pudge does for his defense. But he calls a awsome ball game behind that plate and is a leader beyond leaders so dont say just becuase he can't throw a guy out he sucks or isnt as good as another catcher. He stops balls and plays everything beside throwing runners out. |
