2007 Draft

Yea I know it's still what November and we got until what? April? but I want to hear some outside opinions. I've compiled a Top Five List for each position. After which You may post your own or you may pick mine apart. This will be updated weekly as more performances roll in.

QB
1. JaMarcus Russell, JR, LSU Analysis: Another Junior but could make the jump to the NFL after showing much potential after his Sophmore season. Unfourtunately this potential is much like Michael Vick's So it should remain to be seen what he will do.

2. Brady Quinn, SR, Notre Dame Analysis: Probably the best NFL-Ready Quarterback. Could fit well into any system and start right away. He shows flashes of greatness but does need time to develop as a playcaller in the NFL.

3. Brian Brohm, JR, Louisville Analysis: It remains to be seen whether he'll go into the Draft in April but he is one of the best passers in Nation right now. I think he'd be a project but one that could be worthwhile.

4. Drew Stanton, SR, Michigan State Analysis: I know he doesn't look good as far as numbers and winning goes but to me he is has better intangibles and potential to be a Brady Quinn.

5. Troy Smith, SR, Ohio State Analysis: Crucify me in Ohio but Troy Smith is overrated. He is a clone of Michael Vick and how is Vick doing in the NFL. Nevertheless I can't argue with raw athleticism Which is something Troy has a lot of.

RB
1. Marshawn Lynch, JR, California Analysis: Crucify me in Oklahoma, Marshawn Lynch shows the awareness and vision of an NFL back. Not near the talent of Adrian Peterson but has proven to be more durable and more explosive than Adrian.

2. Adrian Peterson, JR, Oklahoma Analysis: Truly a great RB, not a Reggie Bush complete player but still one of the best in the nation. Has had trouble with injuries it seems. Also needs to work on his vision so he gets hit less.

3. Kenny Irons, SR, Auburn Analysis: Nice combination of power and quickness. Shows sparks of greatness every now and then but needs to prove he can be more consistent to be a great NFL back.

4. Michael Bush, JR, Louisville Analysis: If he declares he is one of the top talents in the draft. Lives up to his last name as far as versatility goes. However I have a feeling he wouldn't be an effective everydown back as he seems to get nicked up all the time.

5. Garrett Wolfe, SR, Northern Illinois Analysis: Truly a complete back. Does everything well and up to standards, but is not great in any area. Save his elusiveness one of the most elusive backs I have seen play.

WR
1. Calvin Johnson, JR, Georgia Tech Analysis: Amazing, awesome, the most talented reciever coming out of college I have seen. Possesses great lateral and vertical quickness and speed. Almost impeccable hands. He truly is a Great WR

2. Jeff Samardzija, SR, Notre Dame Analysis: Good WR but not great gets the job done. Like a Deion Branch type is flashy but quiet. He is also 6'5" which is an awesome height for a WR

3. Steve Breaston, SR, Michigan Analysis: If he can solve his one major problem he could be a great NFL reciever. Unfourtuately his biggest problem is very very very important. He drops the ball. Once he learns how to catch he'll be great.

4. Ted Ginn, JR, Ohio State Analysis: Amazing speed, amazing quickness, amazing hands. So why is he ranked #4? because we don't know if he'll come out, and I don't know how his speed is going to translate into the NFL.

5. David Ball, SR, New Hampshire(1-AA) Analysis: If he could do what he did in I-AA in I-A we'd be talking about him day and night. He is a great reciever. No doubt in my mind.

OL
1. Joe Thomas, SR, T, Wisconsin Analysis: Go ahead call me a 'homer' for choosing Joe as the best lineman. But watch him play, he is an amazing Tackle and could anchor a line in the NFL for years. Overall #1 in my mind.

2. Levi Brown, SR, T, Penn State Analysis: Great Left Tackle. A true "natural" Left Tackle. Another player who could anchor an NFL line for years.

3. Joe Staley, SR, T, Central Michigan Analysis: Extremely athletic for his size. Could easily be a Top-10 pick had he gone to a more prestigous school. Still might be there. Great strength and quickness.

4. Ben Grubbs, SR, G, Auburn Analysis: Shows his athleticism by having played 3 positions while in college. Started out as a Defensive Tackle, then moved to Tight End. Great quickness and strength, Lacks ideal awareness but that is able to be improved.

5. Kyle Young, SR, C, Fresno State Analysis: Overall a center who also can play as a pulling guard. Shows great footwork and stability. Needs to improve his strength at the Point-Of-Attack to be a true NFL Starter.

*I will do the Defensive Players if asked to*
*If you have a player you think I'm missing or want me to scout one of your favorite players feel free to either reply to this message or PM me.*
*This list is compiled after watching tapes of College Football games from the past 3 years*

Also, Troy Smith is a Vick clone? First, Vick is doing WELL in the NFL. He's not perfect but he wins. Second, 45 carries in 9 games - including sacks, that's about 4 carries a game. He scrambles when nothing is open - there are almost no designed runs. Second, talk about racist. Troy Smith is a Vick clone, despite being a predominately passing quarterback. Jamarcus Russell, 6'6", 260, 4 carries a game - Vick clone? That's ridiculously wrong. Good to know the black quarterback bias still exists.

Watch the games! Ted Ginn has amazing hands? Ok, then. Breaston is garbage, Stanton is garbage, Kyle Young is absolutely garbage. Good lord, he is so overrated and it shows that you don't watch the games by including him over guys like Josh Beekman, Sam Baker, Jake Long and Jared Gaither. Kyle Young is so bad.

Vick like potential doesn't mean he plays like Vick? I don't get that. Vick like potential means he plays like Vick. He has the potential to be Michael Vick. Michael Vick is a quarterback who runs a lot and is only learning the passing game now. JaMarcus Russell doesn't run a lot. So to me, that is a bad comparison, one only made possible by his skin color. Stanton has as much Vick like potential as Russell does - NONE. Vick, 6'0", skinny, runs a lot, Russell, 6'6", THICK, does not run so much. How are they similar?

Racist is probably an overstatement, blow-hardish or ignorant is probably a better one. That's dumb. You compared the two black quarterbacks in the draft to Michael Vick. JaMarcus Russell really = Jared Lorenzen, while Troy Smith is in a class of his own. That's not to say "OMG SMITH IS THE BEST EVAR" (although he's awesome), he just really doesn't have an NFL comparison. Drew Brees with a stronger arm, or McNabb with less size, maybe.

I do worry about Quinn's mental makeup, Bret - he can come back and win big games but he always seems so uncomfortable in the pocket and looks like he's about to choke. The thing is, if he just never frowned or never looked rattled, we'd never know, because his play doesn't dictate it, just his body language. That's dangerous, though. That potentially belies a nature that more pressure will bring out of him. I like Quinn, I think he isn't good enough to go in the top 10 though. He's a better prospect than Cutler but not by a lot.

I think Stanton is really overrated. He's got a decent arm and escapability, but he's easily rattled and he makes a lot of mistakes. To me, he is the type of quarterback that's going to make a team really angry.

Someone is getting a steal in Troy Smith. Sure, he's not of ideal height, but his line at OSU, from LT to RT - 6'8, 6'8, 6'5, 6'5, 6'6. The Browns line - 6'5, 6'3, 6'2, 6'4, 6'6. So he may get a few extra passes batted down - he's Brees' height and he's got a stronger arm and more speed. He can make any throw. Not to say he'll be better than Brees - even as good as Brees would be great. I just think it's a mistake to pass up a good QB because he isn't of ideal height. I mean, it's not like he's 5'5" or something, 6'0" is not too small.

My QB rankings probably go:

Quinn
Smith
Brohm
Leak
Stanton
Russell

Only three sure first day picks I feel. I don't even like Brohm that much..

To me Brohm should wait another year to come out. He isn't as polished as most NFL teams would like But there is no denying he does have some good points.

Vick-like Potential is described as this. JaMarcus Russell can be a game-changer like Vick is. To Me JaMarcus can Win a game or he can lose a game such as Vick. You're right he's no where near the runner that Vick is. But as I said he is a GAME-CHANGER. He can make plays out of nowhere like Vick can. But Again this is just my evaluation of players I am in no way a Professional Scout. I'd love to be, but in now way am i

You want the real dish on Russell? This is how the comparison goes:

Rohan Davey = Russell

Matt Flynn = Matt Mauck

Russell can win during the regular season, but he can't ever win during a super important game. This is typical of Rohan Davey. Whenever Russell has gone down, Flynn has stepped in and won the big one.

Russell will not win the big game, period. He hasn't before. That's why I doubt him in the NFL.
