Which is the greater aspect to baseball - the preponderance of statistical measurement that allow the game to be broken down so thoroughly or the fact that the game has changed relatively little for almost a century, which allows for relatively useful statistcal comparison across eras?

What are your thoughts on the 2002 NBA Conference Finals, between the LA Lakers and Sacramento Kings? Was Game 7 "fixed", or were people just looking for an excuse on why the Kings couldn't quite finish the job?

What is your opinion on John Calipari? Is he a great coach, good coach, or what? How do his "scam" teams of UMass and Memphis affect his legacy? Would you say that perhaps besides Coach K, is he the best coach in all of basketball?

Both are huge factors, You look at baseball and the most drastic changes they've made to their rules is the height of the pitchers mound. Other than that, I can't think of any other game changing rule change that's occured at least in my lifetime. The things that have changed are the things that cloud a lot of people, and that's the culture surrounding baseball, which is why most records and such are era-specific, such as the deadball era, the live ball era, the steroid era, and the post-steroid apocalypse. The differences in the game are minimal though which does thiankfully allow for cross-generations statisical comparison, especially with it being America's Pastime, and having so many videos from 1940+

Just as a fun fact, did you know that up until 1955, the shortstop traditionally stood around 6-7 feet closer to second base in a normal infield set-up? From 1940-1955, over 65% of balls were hit to the right side of the infield, and people say that guys back then didn't notice trends...

Honestly, It's a little bit of both. There was some pretty awful refereeing in those games all together, but at the end of the day I live by the rule of you never let the ref beat you because you play well enough that any blown call won't matter.

Calipari is a great coach, just a tad unscrupulous. He has a great eye for talent, and with his dribble drive offense, he can adjust it to fit his teams talents, which in turn makes his teams successful. Right now there is a Calipari PG trend with Rose, Evans, Wall, Knight and now Teague(I think it will end with Knight, Teague isn't that good), and most forget his time at UMass, when his offense and defense were schemed around Marcus Camby. He's very good at getting talent, and then utilizing it. That being said, as far as current coaches go, no, he's not right behind Coach K, He's missing National Titles from his resume. Off the top of my head, I'd say he's tied for the best coach without a championship(Bo Ryan and Jay Wright), and he's currently behind guys like Jim Boeheim, Calhoun, Bill Self, Roy Williams, Billy Donovan, possibly even Steve Fisher. Once he starts winning titles, and doesn't have his wins and final fours revoked, wie'll talk about current placement.

I actually did't know that about shortstops. Or if I did, it was long forgotten.

Honestly, I think the two factors are too interconnected to be separated.

    Now, for a two-parter...

What are your thoughts on Jeremy Lin?

I've read a few people talking about the Giants as being "poor" champions. I don't know if I buy that, but it certainly felt like they got lucky. Maybe its just because they won close games through the playoffs and those games seemed to swing on one or two key moments. I end up feeling a bit like they got lucky and teams beat themselves to a degree (an idea I typically hate) but I am also bitter over the NFC championship game. So basically, what are your thoughts on the Giants as world champions in 2012?

Going to the pro side, who do you think is the best coach in the NBA? Gregg Popovich? George Karl? Doc Rivers? Or maybe even Tom Thibodeau? Give me your top five coaches and why you have who you have at number one.

Tom Brady is now tied with John Elway with 5 superbowls for most appearances ever. 50% of his career he has gone to the superbowl. (didn't play in 08)

    So the question.

Is it better to go and lose or not go at all. Does this improve Brady's legacy or do the two losses tarnish it?

Is there a veteran coach in the league that could be useful in transforming the Raiders franchise, and do you believe that all the coahing changes in the past decade have been necessary?

It's actually one of the things that made a lot of people become switch hitters, I doubt if you can find it, but there was a book written in 1961ish called the Birth of the Switch Hitter which actually revealed a lot of insight into the baseball world at the time. My grandfather gave it to me.

Jeremy Lin is a great player, in college, he's a one-dimensional player, he can't finish strong with the left, and most of his defense is actually energy, not stopping power. He had three fantastic games against three obviously uncaring PGs. Knowing Devin Harris kind of personally, he's sick of being traded, as soon as he starts playing at an All-Star level in Dallas he gets traded to New Jersey, once he starts at an All-Star level for NJ he gets traded to Utah for Deron Williams. I'm sure he's well aware it's a business, but based on that, he almost has no incentive to play well. Onto Lin, he's succeeded mostly because he's taking advantages of the opportunities he's been given. So I can't hate the kid for that, but all this savior of NY talk is getting old, when he faces a team that can defend a high pick and roll, and dishes 7 assists to Tyson Chandler because of a bad switch, or terrible weakside help(HI GORDON HAYWARD), then I'll start believing more.

The NFL Champions are almost always Paper lions, I mean we all know at this point in our lives it's more about who's hot as opposed to who's better, and football isn't a game where you're going to get a seven game series to let most of the anomalies to even out. Giants deserve to be Champions just like everyone else, the only knock on them is that it was a shortened training camp/offseason program, so it was kind of a weird season overall. But even that hasn't stopped other sports from recognizing champions without asterisks, 1999 Spurs, and this years NBA Champions.

I don't know if he's the best, but Rick Adelman is definitely one of the most underrated, He did a lot with those Houston teams sans Yao Ming, especially never having a suitable replacement for when Yao was injured. As far as the best, Popps would probably get my vote, Carlisle would be second, Thibs needs more years to be considered, he's the best coach with <3 years of experience.

Go and Lose, anyone who doesn't believe so is an idiot. Jim Kelly was a terrific QB, but anyone who will look at his 0-4 SB record and take Joe Namath's 1-0 record, or even Eli's 2-0 record, over him over the course of their career, they're retarded. Kelly is far and away a better QB than both of them. They aren't slobs by any means, but the fact that Brady has been to the SB so many times, with teams not exactly overflowing in the talent department speaks for itself imo.

Honestly, fire Lovie. I like Lovie, I really do, and it's not his fault. But sometimes you look at your organization and you realize it's time for a change. I think the team is pretty decent as is, add a few defensive pieces, solidify the offensive line, re-sign Forte, get Cutler some actual targets to throw to, undo the Greg Olsen trade, and you're in pretty good shape. They've retooled year in and year out and haven't had too much variance in results, the talent is there save a few pieces, so it's not like this should take years.

Some of them were, some of them weren't. Bill Callahan, Art Shell and Lane Kiffin were just bad hires, Jon Gruden wanted out, Norv Turner wasn't given any time, Tom Cable was a figurehead assistant as a head coach, Hue Jackson probably deserved another chance, but oh well. But now that Al Davis is dead(RIP), they need to do a full organizational rebuild. Hiring Dennis Allen who has been raved about in circles for his intellect was a good move, next move is to start flipping some key players for picks and future players, the team as built isn't going to do much outside of possibly winning the AFC West, and a few years in the doghouse to stockpile talent is sometimes worth the excitement it brings(Right Lions fans)
