National League MVP Ryan Braun, who last season led the Milwaukee Brewers to their first division title in nearly three decades, has tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug and faces a 50-game suspension if the initial finding is upheld, two sources familiar with the case told "Outside the Lines."

Yikes another black eye to baseball. This is getting just terrible.Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun, the National League’s MVP in 2011, faces a 50-game suspension after reportedly testing positive for elevated levels of testosterone during the playoffs, according to a report Saturday.
ESPN reported that further tests showed the testosterone was synthetic. Braun is disputing the positive result.
A spokesperson for Braun on Saturday issued the following statement: “There are highly unusual circumstances surrounding this case which will support Ryan’s complete innocence and demonstrate that there was absolutely no intentional violation of the program. While Ryan has impeccable character and no previous history, unfortunately, because of the process we have to maintain confidentiality and are not able to discuss it any further, but we are confident that he will ultimately be exonerated.”
According to ESPN, Braun provided a urine sample in October and was notified of the positive result later in October.
A violation of MLB’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Policy has never been successfully appealed.
Braun, 28, batted a career-high .332, hit 33 home runs and had 111 RBIs for the Brewers in 2011. He then batted .500 in the NL Division Series and .333 in the NLCS, where the Brewers were eliminated by the St. Louis Cardinals, at around the time he tested positive.
In MVP balloting, Braun received 20 first-place votes and therefore outpointed second-place finisher Matt Kemp, who received 10.
A player has never been stripped of a Baseball Writers Association of America award.

Of all the people who could have tested positive; this makes me the saddest. I hope it isn't true and they find a way to say that the test was wrong or something along those lines. I'm not a Brewer fan in the slightest, but he seems like a genuinely nice guy and I would hate to see this happen to him.
I have said it and I'll say it again, I wouldn't be surprised if anyone has taken steroids at one point. Name any player and I wouldn't be surprised at all to be honest.
Pretty awful news, it seemed as though baseball was finally getting out from underneath the black cloud of steroids that's been lingering, and then the NL MVP gets a positive test for a banned substance. I don't think he will get stripped of the award if the positive test holds up though.

I wouldn't be surprised.

Performance enhancing drugs aren't necessarily steroids, though, and I think people don't see that. There are various stimulants and supplements banned by MLB through the CBA. His testosterone levels were extremely high, but a subsequent test showed he was clean. This was a mix up, he's innocent and the appeal will go through.
As much as I am a Yankee fan I wouldn't be surprised to tell you the truth.
Pretty sure the subsequent test showed that the testosterone was synthetic. I don't really see this getting over turned. I don't feel sorry from Braun at all. Like he said about A-Rod, he should just come out and said he took it and apologize for it. That's the best thing he can do.
