Quinn Attempts 6 New Signings.

From: SAFC.com

By Nick Alexander

Niall Quinn has switched his sights to the foreign market as he looks to strengthen Sunderland's squad before the transfer window closes.
Quinn has revealed to safc.com that he is "close" to making a breakthrough on the transfer front, with five bids currently in place.

The Sunderland manager missed out on the signing of Andy Reid this week when the Republic of Ireland winger opted to join Charlton in a £3m.
But it has failed to dent the manager's confidence as he looks to freshen up his squad.

Quinn said: "It's been morning, noon and night and I'm happy to report that we've put the foot on the pedal this week. We're in with big bids for five players.

"We tabled the bids at the start of the week and thankfully they're still in place. They've moved along and jigged about to get closer and I think they'll be joy soon. At this moment in time all the balls are really nicely in the air."
Quinn is still waiting to hear whether Aston Villa boss Martin O' Neill is prepared to let Kevin Phillips leave Villa Park.

He said: "We're led to believe that Aston Villa will come back with an answer very soon with an answer. It's taken more time that we would have liked but we should get an answer soon.

"There's no problem with money. The issue is whether Martin wants Kevin to stay or not. They will have a chat about it and we'll see what happens."
Quinn has also revealed that he is in competition with two Italian clubs over the signing of another player, on a Bosman deal.

He said: "We're not lowering the bar because we missed out on a couple of Premiership players. We missed out on [Andy] Reid as everyone knows. What we're doing now is spreading the search wider.

"We were given permission to speak terms with Andy, it was just a matter that the lad wanted to stay in the Premiership and we have to respect that. It's disappointing but we move on.

"We've come to the conclusion that there might be a few like Andy, who want to see where the club is going before they commit.
"We've scattered our net to the outer reaches of Europe and we feel we've come up with a few that can be just as good."

Quinn added: "We have to be careful with other clubs and respect their right to privacy, but we're in strong negotiations and we're led to believe that at least three bids are at the stage where clubs are going to accept.
"That's not to say that I'm going to be turfing people out of the door here, it's just we need to bring players in."

Looks as if he is making up for lost time, i hope he gets at least 2.
