The most hapless franchise in sports ?

You know, the one that never can seem to do anything right, no matter what. Screw up draft picks, lose key players, year after year of losing seasons, coaching embattlements etc....

Whats the most hapless franchise in pro sports?
---------

The obvious one's here are of course The Clippers, and Arizona Cardinals

The Clippers and Cardinals actually started to make some good moves in recent years, but they each had a really embarrassing thing happen to them. First, the Cardinals couldn't get Matt Leinart signed, and he missed training camp and the first preseason game. Even worse, the owner of the Clippers, who is a housing guy, was accused of discrimination, by not allowing black people to move into his housing developments.

Also, the Bengals, who were a joke for a long time, made strides with the Palmer-c. Johnson-R. Johnson-Houshmandzadeh offense, and the Saints had an awesome offseason, drafting Reggie Bush and signing Drew Brees.

In baseball, I think the most haplesss team has to be the Philadelphia Phillies. They've been around since before the first World Series in 1903, and they've won exactly 1 World Series (in 1980). At least the Cubs, White Sox, and Red Sox won a couple each before their prolonged streaks.

But, the Cubs arent far behind. They've only won 2 World Series, despite having some great players over the years. Plus, there's the whole Bartman thing.

And, I dont want to throw salt in the wound here, but the Red Sox did have quite a few blunders in the history.

In football, it's gotta be the Detroit Lions. 1 NFL championship in 76 years. Only one playoff win during the Barry Sanders era. The whole Matt Millen era is a joke. 21-59 record in the last 5 seasons. They took wide recievers in the top 10 of the first round three straight years.

The Cleveland Browns are pretty hapless too. They had two devastating losses to the Broncos in the 80's. So devastating, they are simply known as "the drive" and "the fumble". They are 36-76 since re-entering the league in 1999. Every one of their first round picks since they came back has been a bust (although its still too early to tell with Braylon Edwards). And, just this year, their big free agent signing, center LeCharles Bentley, gets knocked out for the season in the first contact drill of training camp. They havent won a championship in the Super Bowl era, although they did win a few with Jim Brown in the 1960's. But, the new incarnation is a mess.

I have to say the New York Knicks. Every year they add more and more salary to a team that's extremely overpaid and horrible on the court. They'll never be under th cap. and unless they completely tank it, they'll never get a great draft pick either. Case in point, they signed Jarred Jeffries for $30M this offseason.

They also made a joke out of the Larr Brown situation, and Isiah Thomas is a walking deadman.

I was gonna get to them next, but then I started crying.

Bear in mind that they also havent won a championship in 33 years.

I think I did a thing recently where Ilook at all of the Knicks draft picks for the last 10 years. Wow, it was NOT pretty...

Knicks without a doubt, they have everyone they need but cannot produce anything.

For hockey I'd have to say Pittsburg.......again, they have the players, superstar sensation, the management, but no chemistry and therefore have nothing to show for what they've done in the past like 3-4 years.

Remember the Spyda, dude ..
