| Patriots Lose Key Duo In Free Agency Willie McGinest and David Givens, two key members of New England's double Super Bowl winning team, have departed.
34-year-old linebacker McGinest, who also played in the 2001 Super Bowl victory over St Louis, signed a three-year, $12 million deal with the Cleveland Browns where he wil be reunited with former New England defensive co-ordinator Romeo Crennel.
McGinest has spent his entire 12-year career with the Pats and has the most play-off sacks in history.
The Patriots cut McGinest for salary cap reasons but hoped to re-sign him at a bargain price, but the Browns wanted him enough to pay him a prime salary.
Receiver Givens signed a five-year deal worth $24 million with Tennessee which includes an $8 million signing bonus.
The 25-year-old caught eight passes for 88 yards and two touchdowns in Super Bowls XXXVIII and XXXIX and is the Patriots' all-time post-season touchdown reception leader with seven |
